so my highly unscientific vibe check (in amongst these asks) of the B&W gym leaders wasn’t the wild stab in the dark I assumed it was; excepting the disservice I did to Brycen and Burgh.
Here’s a quick remedy to that plus some asks below:

@geeneelee
The ones with food names are triplets! And I think you’ve vibe checked most of them correctly more or less? There are a few misses, like the ice guy is kind of depressed and Burgh is a kind, flamboyant artist type. Not a smart ass, more a “fabulous darling yes more paint!!” kind of guy and I’m fond of him. Marlon had the distinction of being a jumbo who is my enemy. Also, Clay has nothing to do with them.

@penguinkiwi
For the gym leaders adding onto what Geeneelee said; Brycen’s actually a pretty quiet dude in person though he is an actor so it would mostly depend on when the twins interacted with him ( on set vs off set ). As stated, Clay’s got nothing to do with the railway system, he’s actually a miner but theres probably common interest in tunnels and ground types (ie: Excadrill).

I honestly don’t know why the idea of the food boys being related didn’t occur to me - they’ve deffo got echoes of the eevee brothers from back in the day, just not as antagonistic.
Brycen’s super dynamic posing and sprites totally threw me; (plus that pic of him with the beartic honestly just made me laugh) The idea that he goes all in with his acting but is actually quite retiring in person is adorable.

Clay was definitely the owner of something; that cowboy hat is too conspicuous otherwise, but it was a swing and a miss on my part.

your takes:
Burrggh: he’s the bug trainer guy, and emmet and ingo both actually raise a lot of bugs. (emmet often gets tied with Joltik). he’s also the painter, so yeah there could be some smugness. (His first gym was ‘What if it was a beehive honeycomb filled with clowns’. His second gym was 'what if paint and giant spider eggs’.)

So you’re not wrong but there’s probably potential for Weird Bug Friend-rivals.

Clay has no ownership of the railroad but he is a gym leader so he might be in charge of public transit or some degree. (he’s a fairly 'reasonable bootstraps leader’ type character, and has a excadrill as his star. so he and ingo probably discuss their moles)

I think it goes hand in hand with the Satoshi Tajiri’s own passion for collecting bugs that so many of the bug type trainers are so enthusiastic about their bug friends. (looking at all those Bug catchers tryna check me with a caterpie)

Like with Brycen, I think Burgh’s screenshots didn’t do him any justice - after all there’s a fine line between being serving theatrical and smug. But I should’ve known better; those trousers do scream flamboyant art teacher.

To be fair, there is also a implication that the gym leaders own the towns they’re in. Drayden at least is canonically also the mayor, but he’s the only town we know of with a mayor. So they all might technically have control over the Public Transportation Budget.

The idea that all the gym leaders have a vested interest in the railway is sending me.
Settling pay disputes with pokémon battles.
GOD if I could just throw a raticate at management instead of filing a grievance. Pikachu at the picket line
WHY IS THIS SO FUNNY??

Anonymous asked:
My favorite fact about Clay that was lost in translation is that he’s specifically a japanese businessman who moved to the states and dresses like a cowboy, so him managing the railways in unova would be so much funnier

Suddenly Clay’s fashion choices are even funnier, of course it’s a cowboy cosplay; HE’S A MINER WHY WOULD HE NEED LEATHER CHAPS?
Tho I was halfway there I guess, something in my brain took one look at him and said ‘Oil Baron’

@embretheworld  asked:
despite it being a guess, you got like pretty all of the personalities of the gym leaders spot on! the skyla part surprised me because she actually Does own a plane, she owns a whole airport. cilan, chili, and cress are actually triplets! they work at the same restaurant and in the anime cilan(cilantro?) knows the submas bros, trusts him with their train to some extent. clay’s a miner and runs train tracks with carts but i think he owns a company but i don’t know what it is. iris is the champion of the region in the second game at least and your like 100% right about her. in the anime cilan really like trains and since he knows the submas bros i like to think that when they were young/teens they probably helped train some of the younger gym leaders since there are a couple. but i think i rambled for too long its just fun to talk about the two and how i think they interact with other characters. hope this didn’t bother you too much. have a good day/night!

I’m pretty blown away that it wasn’t just a complete whiff, especially Skyla - I was almost joking about the planes, but the more I thought about it the more I liked the idea of train/plane spotter solidarity.

I’ve pretty much got the image that the Submas bros just sort of sweep in and project their enthusiasms until they’ve collected a little band of equally passionate people who can meet their energy halfway regardless of the topics.

It’s a pretty interesting idea to think that the twins could probably easily be gym leaders in their own right; but rather they’ve waived that in order to follow their true passion of the Battle subway. Makes sense then that they might have had a hand in raising some of the current leaders given how stringent their challenge is.

A good night/day to all of yous too!

I’ve been havin’ WAY too much fun vicariously filtering my own experiences through these delightful lads; here’s a quick little ask dump for yous. I’m trying to find a new way of formatting them whilst steadily ploughing through my ask box and I’m fillin’ up my queue with posts to come out soon! But for the moment:

I really love the slight looming horror of your previous artwork. (Where if Ingo does disappear for some reason, it will be some time before someone notices/looks for him/realizes. Course he might not disappear at all in that universe! Basically, i really appreciated it, and really loved how you could take it on its own thing as a story about how easy it is to make mistakes while working on a train.)

ooooo! So glad you liked! The events of pokémon arceus are pretty wide spread but there are still so many unknown variables surrounding it, that makes it so ripe for poking at the anticipation of what folk are expecting, you can really just let their imaginations work against them!
Plus it’s a perfect excuse for me to just wildly project my own experiences on these delightful muppet men. XD

@tea0-0stache asked:
so many dangan artists, me included, have been really into submas lately and i love it. thh to submas pipeline. you cannot escape it.

You’reabsolutely correct! It’s like an express pipeline, like that one action park waterslide with the loop: NO ESCAPE

@reservecoursesasked:
What kind of role do you think Ingo and Emmet would take throughout a killing game? Like, how would they work during investigations or trials? Do you think one of them would get killed or resort to killing? How would all their reactions to everything go? I imagine their emotional connection to each other could be motivation for either them or others to do something…

 [pic]
oooooh!  I can see them being a source of mistrust, not true antags of course, but just attracting suspicion as the only two people who have a solid anchor to rely on in the killing game.
In all honesty I could see them both surviving if only because it’d fit that classic dangan red herring thing where they introduce a potentially really interesting development then juuuust sidestep it.
On the other hand, if one of them dies I can’t see the other surviving. If they were victims their identities might be swapped to confuse the timeline so the blackened has an alibi based on which twin died first. If one of them became the blackened, It might be in the case of trying to double bluff monokuma in a ‘who’s the REAL blackened?’ twist but it’d probably just end in monokuma axing them both, regardless that one was actually innocent.

@the-chibi-devil
This is a neat idea! Do you have a rationale behind both of them holding the same title at the same time, or is it just for fun?

I’ll be honest I’ve not got a real rationale, it was just for fun!
I thought of giving one of them an animal themed talent in reference to their passion for pokémon battles but … uhhhh there’s not really a nice real world equivalent for that? I mean dog shows maybe? But Gundham already has the market cornered on animal husbandry.

Tho, there’s not actually a hard and fast rule that there can only be one ultimate in any given field …

Ingo and Emmet and Ishida and Taka outfit swap!

The twins seem like big kids at heart to me, so I imagine they’d be super indulgent with folk who share their level of energy, even if they don’t have the same passions. Just a perpetual motion machine of enthusiasm feeding off each other.
(I fully just missed Ishida’s name when I read this OOPS)

@embretheworld asked:
how do teh submas bros think about the other gym leaders? im sure they get along but i want you take on how their relationships would be with them. do they hang out or have a friendly rivalry?

AH CARDS ON THE TABLE
I don’t know any of the gym leaders from black and white, it’s one of the games I’ve not actually played BUT I took a wild stab at it just based purely on vibes, no knowledge, feel free to @ me for these terrible takes.

The sketchy line comics seem to work so well with the subway twins! Not sure why, but it just Works (especially when Emmet is suffering from Feedback, haha!) Also I’m learning so much about trains… oh no… the brain rot is spreading…

 [comic]
Thanks so much! There was a point when I never used to post sketchy comics, but it’s been so freeing and fun :D and yes the rot is REAL and it’s UNTREATABLE the spores are in the foundations.

Im sorry I don’t get how the outfits work :(

Is there a site or informational videos? I’d love to understand better.

I’ll admit when I drew the coats in the [2nd comic], I was being a bit lazy but maybe this pic will clear it up:

image

All the seams are attached with poppers or velcro so it detaches at the seams if it gets snagged on something. Caution tho’ if you’re googling demonstrations of tearaway clothing, you’re liable to come across some potentially racy videos.

I love your submas fanart so much. It’s so cool to see actual information about train stations and stuff like that <3

I really like your submas art! It’s so cool that you can incorporate real life train industry information since you actually work with trains. Keep up the good work friend!

AHhh, Thanks so much! Honestly feels a little like these boys were made in a lab to fire off all my happy chemical synapses, and to have my own little niche with train shenanigans? Bliss

Anonymous asked:
what else can you share about your job?

a coupla titbits;

*The danger of going through red signals is so drilled into your head it’s very common for trainees to have stress dreams about it to the point you get training about having those types of dreams.

*People who live along the railway lines seem to be completely oblivious to the fact that I can see through all their windows.

* You end up developing behaviour patterns to keep your driving safe; for example a common one is pointing at signals and calling out what they’re showing. When I’m running an empty service I sing at the top of my voice to remind myself not to open my doors at stations I’m not supposed to.

Train questions!

1) Can most trains go backwards if they’ve stopped and there’s an obstacle ahead?

2) If the obstacle is an active threat, what is the best protocol for passenger safety?

3) Do trains constantly keep in touch with a central monitoring authority, like how planes are informed of incoming traffic and storms with radio tower control centers?

4) If yes to the above, how are conditions on the tracks monitored in real time?

Yes I’m asking because of submas brainrot but I have An Idea and you seem like the best person to ask for clarifying details about trains lol

Train answers!

1) Surprisingly yes, trains can reverse! BUT it’s not used in that scenario, it’s used to uncouple trains or if there’s a major control malfunction. There are driver’s cabs on either end of the train so If you come across an obstruction, you walk though the train and drive from the other end (but there are very specific rules for doing this, the preferred action if there’s no active danger is for you to just sit there and wait)

2) If an obstruction is an active threat there’s no one protocol, there are instructions and rules for all sorts of specific scenarios, but the standard is to make an emergency call to the signaller so that the situation can be reported and the train taken out of danger in the safest manner, which might be changing ends and driving the train away from the threat.

3) We drive in radio silence; you’re only contacted if there’s a problem, so a good shift is you don’t talk to anyone the whole time XD It’s kinda operated on a ‘need to know’ basis so unless it directly effects your train the signaller won’t waste time informing you.

4) the signaller has a simplified electronic map of the area they control of all the signals and the train’s approximate location via electronic tags on the tracks and the radio’s signal. They have no visuals so it’s up to drivers to report any problems on the tracks and the signaller can then direct trains or inform them as necessary.

ymmv of course; I can only speak from where I’m at, hope that clears a couple things up :)
