“Whimsy Canyon” revolves around the mystery of Sahara desert canyons and their mirages. The collection combines a refined aesthetic, inspired by the Sahara desert, with the eccentricity of the Wild West canyons.

For this collection, as the pieces are all very minimalist and strict-cut, we added an oriental touch with vintage handmade jewellery. It gave a nice vibrant touch to the collection. All jewels come from North Africa (Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria).

Swiss Fashion blogger Hayekk perfectly explained it on her blog:

“Symbolically, Berber jewellery is a sign of free exchanges between nations. Berber by origin, this emblematical jewellery type became a Kabyle art thanks to the Andalous contribution who, at that time, ran away from Spain because of The Reconquista.
Even more so that they are now very known in the Maghreb area with each region their particularities, colors, and finishes. Most of the time, they are made with silver and decorated with corals taken from the Mediterranean sea.

It’s not only about wearing a beautiful set, it’s also about wearing an entire historical North African heritage which passed along from mothers to daughters and distinctively for wedding celebrations.
From their history to their outstanding and definitely noticeable presence, the Berber jewellery type has its unique particularity: you can wear them on your forehead (way before the head jewel trend), on your chest (generally to hold traditional dresses), as a belt, a bracelet, rings and earrings. Basically and except for the laters: not your average jewellery.”

The day after our fashion show in New York, we had another blast.

A magazine based in New York requested some pieces from the Whimsy Canyon collection for fashion editorials and articles, and we also had a photoshoot for the brand.

So much effervescence in the Upper West Side apartment, getting the make up perfectly done by K. Barry, a sweet sweet soul who’s celebrating her birthday today actually! - happy birthday! Our stylist was non other than the nice Stephanie, the owner and chief editor of Covertime Magazine. She took care of both the bloggers who came for her fashion editorial. Pictures were taken by the talented photographer Najm Designs.

Hayekk, from Switzerland, went for a Berber-chic look we’re fond of. That is, on top of being the kindest girl on earth.

We also met the oh so beautiful Valbona Biaku, a New York model stunning with her deep dark eyes and as kind as she is gorgeous. We cannot wait to share the pictures with you, but for now, patience, we first have the Whimsy Canyon collection to introduce to you. Tomorrow on www.cheyma.com<3

Excited to discover it?
