I guess it’s an irony. If the boy was here when the jackboot came down, the Empire would still have a Death Star… But if the family wasn’t killed, maybe he’d never have left.

I want to write an essay about the little that I know about Owen Lars, aka Luke’s father, but for now I’m just so glad because he and Beru did evrything in their power to give Luke a happy and normal childhood, which is what’s made Luke the sweetheart we know him to be. Just seeing ten year old Luke, ďoing exactly what a ten year old should be doing and seeing Owen in a face off against an Inquisitor, when he cannot even compare to her powers, only reconfirms that the two did everything in their power to keep him safe, which I hope offered Obi-Wan some comfort.

aus where owen or beru actually got to be anakin’s sibling and how his death/fall affected them and how that affects them raising his son as their son >>>>

beru’s big smile when she holds luke for the first time oh my god

It really bugs me when fans try to make Owen and Beru’s choice to raise Luke into a plot hole. Of all the prequel bashing hot topics…. I feel like this is the stupidest one. The rant always goes something like this…

Why would Owen and Beru Lars agree to take in Anakin Skywalker’s son when they only met him one time and Anakin breezed in an out, behaved abysmally the entire time he was there, and then left without a word never to come back again? It doesn’t make any sense! Why would they care what happened to that guy’s kid?!

Well the reason is because Owen and Beru’s agreeing to take in Luke had nothing to do with Anakin.

Owen and Beru didn’t agree to raise the son of Anakin.

They agreed to raise the grandson of Shmi - the woman who helped raise Owen and whom he loved as his own mother.

It’s really not that hard to wrap your head around.

This. There’s even a deleted scene from Episode II where Owen gives Padme and Anakin C-3PO, saying (I’m paraphrasing here) it’s “what my mom would have wanted”. And the novelization also makes pretty clear how close Owen and Shmi were and that he did feel like she was a second mother. Of course he would help raise her grandson and love the kid and give him the kind of childhood Anakin never had, that Shmi wished he could have. Of course he would do that.

I feel like the bigger plot hole going unaddressed here is how did Obi-wan even know about Owen and Beru?

Like, clearly Obi-wan must have learned about SOME of Anakin’s visit to Tatooine after AotC. But like… when? Is that closing scene in RotS really the first time Obi-wan met Beru and Owen? When he was handing them over a baby Luke?

Did Obi-wan really just show up as a mysterious cloaked man handing over an infant of presumed deceased Anakin? That Obi-wan ‘killed’. Is that really what happened? Is that the tone Obi-wan set for his relationship with Owen and Beru? Some figurative conglomeration of a Stork and Albatross?
