Warning:swearing, also it’s quite long, a big angst maybe?

A/N: hello! This is my first fic ever! I’m quite excited actually. Just to warn you guys, English is not my first language so if there are mistakes, I apologize. Feel free to point them out, it will surely improve my language skills. That said, I hope you enjoy this story!

***

It was another unproductive day and you were definitely tired, both physically and mentally. You were searching again the Forbidden Forest with Charlie and Barnaby, however, you found nothing. You didn’t lose hope, that would never happen, but you were certainly starting to be tired.

Since you arrived at Hogwarts you have been looking for the Cursed Vaults, and therefore your brother, almost instantly and you never really stopped. This search of yours had took away from you the light and frivolous aspect of the life at Hogwarts. All you had done was looking for the Vaults. You would never have back your youth and those years back.

However, if there was anything positive from this mission of yours, that was certainly your friends. In fact, you were tremendously lucky to have them, for they made those years the best of your life. Yes, finding the Vaults and breaking the curse was difficult and painful, but with your friends by your side, you never felt happier. All of them meant the world to you and you could not live without them.

“Y/N? Are you listening?” Charlie’s voice brought you back to reality. You didn’t realize that someone was talking to you, you simply zoned out.

“Ugh, I’m sorry Charlie, I guess I’m just tired. What were you saying?”

Charlie smiled warmly at you, “Nothing important, really. Just that we will go back again and try harder.”

You nodded, a sad smile on your face. You were glad that Charlie was ready to help you again, but honestly you were starting to think that the Forbidden Forest was a dead end. Barnaby must have guessed because he put a hand on your sholder and grinned at you, “we can do it” he said. Seriously, what would you do without your friends?

After this, you went back to the Ravenclaw’s common room where Tulip and Rowan were waiting for you. The latter, noticing your mood, quickly deduced that the search did not go well and greeted you with a small smile.

“Hello girls” you said to them before sitting on the sofa.

“Any news?” Rowan asked. You shook your head, groaning a bit.

“Don’t lose hope, Y/N Y/L/N. We can go to your brother’s room tomorrow and look for clues again.” You nodded. Tulip was right, there was no time for losing hope.

“How was the Forbidden Forest?”

You looked at Rowan and shrugged, “Dark, silent and creepy. Lucky for us there weren’t dangerous creatures. Although I’m sure Charlie and Barnaby would have liked that.”

Tulip and Rowan exchanged a knowing look between them. You noticed and, to be fair, you didn’t like it.

“What?” you asked.

Rowan was definitely hesitant but Tulip didn’t have any problem in blurting out what was going on.

“Apparently, Bill Weasley was not in his happiest mood today.”

“Tulip!” shouted Rowan.

Tulip laughed and kept looking at you like she knew something and she was not going to tell you any time soon.

“I think I don’t understand” was your blunt reply. Maybe it was because you were tired, or maybe because you really were clueless, but you didn’t get why Bill’s mood was connected to your trip to the Forbidden Forest.

“You really are dumb for a Ravenclaw” was Tulip’s lovely comment. You decided not to reply and to go straight to bed.

***

The next morning, your little conversation with your fellow Ravenclaw friends was forgotten. You had slept like a baby and all your energies were restored. You weren’t thinking about Bill until you met him in the Great Hall and greeted him with your best and warmest smile. Bill has always had a special place in your heart. The first time you met him, you were taken aback, he certainly was handsome, but it was his charming personality that got you. He soon became one of your best friend, always there where you needed him. Spending so much time with him also caused some problems, since Rowan was a bit jealous of you. That had been a really awful week.

However, you could now understand what Rowan felt, since you did it as well when Bill asked you to help him with his crush. You never hated the taste of Butterbeer like that day. It went down your throat like poison, and all you wanted to do was throwing up. You had put away that feeling quite soon since you were busy breaking a curse. Nonetheless, thinking about that day still made your stomach clench. You never understood why. A new feeling was striking you now. In fact, your head was spinning and throbbing. Only one question was there: why?

Bill didn’t even look at you when you said hi to him. He just walked and ignored you. It was like being punched directly to the stomach. You were trying so hard to understand why when you remembered last night conversation. It surely couldn’t be what you were thinking, but could have been possible that, maybe, Bill was sad and upset because you chose Barnaby over him? At the time, that choice made perfectly sense since Barnaby was, together with Charlie, one of the most passionate students of Care of Magical Creatures. Maybe Bill saw that as a betrayal. You didn’t know what to do, so you simply joined Tulip and Rowan at your table.

“Morning, Y/N Y/L/N” said Tulip.

Rowan saw your face and immediately knew that something was wrong, “Is everything okay? You look pale”.

“It’s Bill, he’s… I don’t…” you didn’t know what to say, simply because you didn’t know what was going on.

Rowan raised an eyebrow, “What about him?”

Tulip snorted, “You know fully well, Rowan Khanna, cut the act”.

“What??” oh my if you were annoyed.

Rowan looked down, but after the third time that you coldy called her name, she looked at you and sighed, “look Y/N” she started, “I don’t know what is going on…” you started to protest but she raised her hand to stop you, “but I guessed. I mean, the whole school but you probably guessed.”

You were even more annoyed, what the hell was she talking about? You decided that it was just a waste of time trying to spill the truth out of Tulip’s and Rowan’s mouth, so you stood up and decided to do one thing: to go and deal with the source of the problem.

You quickly found your way to the Gryffindor’s table and walked towards Bill. He turned around when you were almost there, probably feeling you approaching. It always amazed you how well Bill was able to detect your presence. It was pointless denying it, every time his eyes landed on you, your heart skipped a beat.

“Bill, I need to talk to you” you announced.

He looked at you and he was about to tell you something before noticing Charlie, now standing at your side, his hand on you shoulder and a warm smile on his face.

“Good morning Y/N, are you feeling okay? Me and Barnaby were a bit worried about yesterday” he said. Bill’s face hardened.

You looked between the two brothers and decided to reply to Charlie, so that he could leave you and Bill alone. However, Bill stood up and left.

***

It had been nearly two weeks since that day in the Great Hall when you tried to talk to Bill. Since then, he tried to avoid you in every way and, if you were lucky enough to talk to him, he was different. His sweetness was gone, he never smiled at you and everytime he caught you with someone else, mostly Barnaby or Charlie, he was as cold as ice.

You were heartbroken, there was no other way to put it. Yes, you two were just friends, but not talking to him anymore, not being able to see his soft smile and kind eyes, to hear his voice or to be held in his arms, all of it was crushing you. You even stopped looking for the Vaults, and attending class became harder than you thought. You didn’t know why Bill was behaving in that way, you just wanted your friend back. Charlie became the only source of happiness during those weeks. Apparently, Bill was giving the cold shoulder to him too, much to Charlie’s surprise.

“Maybe I’ve done something wrong” you muttered. “Maybe I deserve it”.

“Oh don’t be silly! I don’t know what is going on in my brother’s head but I’m sure it’s not your fault”.

Charlie was always amazing with words, he could cheer you up in no time. You were so lucky to have him by your side. Charlie hugged you tightly, trying to show you that he was right there, next to you and that everything was going to be okay. With your head pillowed on his shoulder, you noticed Bill coming from the training grounds with Emily next to him; they were talking and laughing. Then his laughter stopped when he noticed you and Charlie. He barely looked at you and just walked away. You started crying. You were not sure how you were feeling right now. You were shaking so hard but you weren’t just sad, no you were furious. You felt a rage coming deep from your stomach, a fire you have hardly experienced in the past. The sight of him laughing with Emily was all it took for you to burst out. What was she doing with him? Most importantly, what was hedoing with her, after all the horrible things she said? You suddenly rose from your seat and followed Bill. Charlie tried to stop you, but you were unstoppable.

“Bill Weasley!” you shouted. All the people in the courtyard stopped talking and turned their heads to look at you. You were marching towards him, a fury in your eyes.

“I don’t have time for-“

“Shut up! Now you shut your mouth and listen to me!”

Bill was taken aback from your tone and he didn’t dare to speak again. Never had he seen you this angry. In the meantime, Charlie and your other friends stopped just behind you.

“Now you tell me what the hell is wrong with you! First you stop talking to me, then to your brother and to our friends and what? You hang out with that rat!” You doubted that your mouth could be stopped right now. You didn’t care about hurting him, or making a scene in front of everyone. You experienced enough.

“Don’t you call her a rat!”

Oh great, now he was defending her. Splendid! It was like a knife stabbed you in the heart. Somehow, realising that Bill could care more about Emily than you, made you want to die. Why was your heart hurting so much?

“You’re right. Calling her a rat is an offence for those poor animals. She’s far worse” you spitted through your teeth. Emily stepped forward, probably tired of being called names. Not that you cared, anyway.

“Listen, you little insect, it’s not my fault if Bill prefers me over an ugly brat like yo-“

Flipendo!”You cast the spell without letting her finish. She should be glad that you didn’t use a worse spell that could have damaged her more. In fact, you were being too nice. As soon as you attacked, Charlie and Penny came and tried to stop you from knocking Bill out too. You weren’t much known for your calm.

“Are you mad?!”That was Bill’s voice.

“What? Do you want to join your girlfriend?!” you shouted at him while Charlie was holding you by your waist.

“You’re crazy!” he replied back before kneeling down to Emily and trying to help her.

The only thing your mind could register was that he didn’t deny it. He didn’t. So it was true, Bill was with someone else. It wasn’t you the one to make his heart beat faster, smile bigger and laugh louder. It wasn’t you.

If your heart wasn’t already broken, it surely would be shattered and destroyed right now. All you could feel was an aching emptiness where your heart should have been.

It wasn’t you. You were not the first person Bill would think about in the morning, the one that he would always protect. It wasn’t you.

He didn’t love you.

Why was this thought so painful? You two were just friends, right? Why was the idea of him dating someone else, not just Emily but any other person but you, so damn hard to accept? Why did you care about Bill’s love life? It hit you like cold water in the face. You loved him. You always did. But he didn’t love you back. You were as still as a statue, you couldn’t hear any sound. Suddenly, you took a step forward, Charlie and Penny were watching you closely, ready to stop you if needed.

“I hate you” you whispered softly. Nonetheless, Bill heard you. He turned his head around so fast you could swear you heard his neck crack. His eyes were opened wide, disbelief written all over his face.

“I hate you, Bill Weasley” you repeated louder.

You turned around without waiting for a reply. You didn’t register Charlie’s shouts, nor Professor Snape taking 20 points from Ravenclaw, or the tears rolling down your cheeks. The only thing you could feel was the aching emptiness inside your chest.

***

After the courtyard incident, you locked yourself up in your room. You skipped all the lessons, for which Professor Flitwick was not happy about. You refused to go out and eat; it was Rowan who brought you food. She was the only one allowed to enter your room and the only person you spoke to. Probably because she also had to deal with a broken heart and unrequited love for Bill Weasley. She could understand you. Of course, she tried to convince you to attend class or to go and spend some time with the others. But you were firm in your decision. Truth be told, you didn’t even have the energy to stand up. The difference between you and Rowan was that what the latter felt for Bill was just a simple crush, while you were in love with him. The only time you got out of your room was during the night when you went to the duelling class. Nobody but Rowan knew this. You found yourself spending the entire night there, trying to fix your broken heart by knocking down some manikin. Also, it was good for your anger.

You were in the middle of some heavy duelling against the wall when you heard the door open. You froze.

“Y/N?”

Oh, so Rowan betrayed you at last. Otherwise, how could Bill know where you were? You weren’t angry, not really. You knew that Rowan was only trying to help.

Bill called you again but you refused to speak, trying to find a quick and painless way to go out of the room.

“Can we talk?”

You sighed and closed your eyes. After all this time, now he wanted to talk?

“It’s too late now, isn’t it?” your voice was flat, emotionless. The truth was, inside you were a tornado of emotions.

Bill made a step forward, “can you turn around?” he asked.

He sounded sad, apologetic. You wanted to cry. At last, you did as he asked you. You surely were not a coward.

When you met his eyes, you felt the ground swallowing you. You hadn’t seen that look in nearly a month, you realized just now how much you actually missed it. Looking at him now, his long red hair, his freckles and his soft blue eyes, was like breathing again. You never stopped loving him, not even once. And that was why you had to go away.

“Look Bill, I’m sorry about the other d-“

“Did you mean it?” he blurted out quickly. At your confused face, he said “the other day, when you said you hate me, did you mean it?”

He sounded so… heartbroken. Just like you. Why was he sad? He was the one who stopped talking to you, started ignoring you and treating you like you two weren’t even friends. He was the one who hated you.

“Does it matter?” was all you could ask in return.

“Yes it does. It bloody does.”

“Why?” You weren’t sure where this conversation was heading to, but you couldn’t walk away even if you wanted to. Thing is, you didn’t.

“Because you’re my friend! My best friend!” he shouted at you.

You scoffed and took a step forward, your anger was slowly coming back. “Oh yeah? We’re friends? Because last time I checked, friends don’t ignore each other and don’t treat each other how you treated me! So tell me Bill, are we really friends?” This time it was your voice that was as cold as ice.

Bill flinched and looked down. He knew, of course he did, that he had been the worst jerk ever to you. In fact, he didn’t know if he deserved your forgiveness at all. The truth was, seeing you spending so much time with his brother and Barnaby made him scared and jealous.

“I was jealous” he started, “we were always together, so when you started hanging out with Charlie and Barnaby… look it isn’t an excuse, I’m still the worst friend ever lived, and I’m sorry, but I was jealous. Seeing you with them and not with me… it made me go crazy. I know I don’t deserve your forgiveness but… Y/N, I love you, I’m sorry I screwed up.”

You couldn’t breathe. Did you hear correctly? Did Bill Weasly really said that he loved you? He was jealous, all this time, he was just jealous because he loved you. As if a switch was turned on in your brain, you raised your hand, the one that hold the wand, and knocked Bill on the ground.

“You bastard! You absolute bastard! Couldn’t you just tell me?” You cast another spell, this time Bill was ready to stop any attack. He wasn’t expecting this reaction. “I thought you hated me! And what? You were just jealous? Do you realize how hurt I was!?”

You started attacking him with more serious spells, you were out of control. All that pain, all those tears, for what? For nothing! Because he didn’t hate you, in fact, it was quite the opposite.

“You broke my heart!” You shouted through tears. You were facing him now, only few inches separating you. You looked at him in the eyes before saying, “you broke me, Bill Weasley, and all I ever did was love you since the day I’ve met you.”

There was silence after that. You didn’t even know how you were capable of standing so still when you could feel yourself shaking. Suddenly, you felt Bill’s arms around you and his sweet voice right in your ear, “I’m sorry. Y/N, I love you.”

You looked at him and smiled through your tears and that’s when you felt his lips touching yours. You never felt happier and whole in your life. Suddenly the hole in your chest disappeared and your heart started beating again, because you were right where you belonged.

Penny and Rowan fussed around you, Penny was fiddling with your veil ensuring that it wouldn’t fall out of place as you walked down the aisle while Rowan made sure your gown fell perfectly around you.

“Guys, you really need to stop, you’re both making me even more nervous than I already am.” You said glancing at yourself in the mirror.

“She already looks stunning, what more can you lot do?” Tonks questioned from her spot laying on the couch, shooting you a wink before throwing her head back once more.

You smiled at her though she was no longer looking at you. You took a deep breath, everything was exactly the way you’d envisioned it, your ivory gown flowed elegantly down to the ground, the delicate floral pattern went beautifully with the way Molly had decorated the Burrow. Your veil framed your face in a lovely manner, everything was perfect, the dress, the venue, the groom, you had no reason to feel nervous.

A knock at the door jolted you out of your thoughts. You looked up to see your best friend and soon to be brother-in-law Bill Weasley peek his head into the room. You instantly felt a little more at ease.

“Hey girls, can I have a moment alone with the bride?” He asked as he entered the small room. You nodded and all the girls shuffled out and he closed the door behind them. “How do you feel?” Bill asked making his way to you.

“Good, nervous,” You admitted, lying to Bill was never something you could do. “What if I’m a terrible wife? What if I don’t fit in in Romania? What if Charlie realizes that I was only girlfriend material and not wife material? What if the dragons hate me?” You asked all your doubts coming out in one big ball of word vomit.

“What if you’re an amazing wife? What if Charlie already knows that he’s extremely lucky to be marrying you? What if the dragons love you? What if I told you that no matter where you went you have a way of making people love you? What if the two of you end up with everything the two of you have ever wanted? What if you’re just completely overthinking this?” Bill shot back as he wrapped your hands in his, his touch helped to soothe your raging nerves.

“Thank you, Bill, I honestly don’t know what I’d do without you.” You said wrapping your arms around him tightly, Bill wrapped his arms around your waist holding you in a way that felt different to all the other times he’d hugged you. Something was off with him, you could feel it.

“Alright, it’s my turn to be a good sister and ask, what’s going on with you?” You asked pulling away from him. His eyes went wide as if he hadn’t expected such a question.

“What? Nothing, everything’s fine.” Bill said causing you to put your hands on your hips.

“William, I’ve spent the good majority of the past nine years practically attached to your side, you can’t lie to me anymore than I can lie to you.” You told him placing a hand under his chin to bring his gaze back to yours.

“It’s just, when I,” Bill took a deep breath he was unsure whether or not he should say his next words, “when I pictured you getting married, becoming a Weasley, it wasn’t exactly like this.” He admitted.

His words confused you, what did he mean by that? Did he think your wedding sucked? What was going through his mind?

“It’s the dress isn’t it?” You asked nervously, Bill sighed, you had no clue about the feelings he harbored, and maybe, Bill decided, that was for the best.

“No, you look absolutely lovely, and the wedding is beautiful. It’s me I was referring to, I mean look at me,” Bill said stepping back and allowing you to get a full look at him. “I mean I love the two of you so much I traded in my leather jacket for a tux!” Bill said making you laugh.

Bill pulled you into a tight hug and placed a gentle kiss on your forehead. “I love you (y/n), I honestly don’t know what I’d do without you.”

“Let’s hope we never have to find out.” You whispered into his chest.

“Come on, let’s get you to the alter.” He said smiling down at you.

You nodded, “Let’s make me an official Weasley!” You grinned your nerves from before were long gone.

Charlie, Bill, Andre and Barnaby stood expectantly at the end of the aisle, Charlie’s eyes were glued to you as you made your way to him, Mr. Weasley’s arm interlocked with yours as he walked you down, and it seemed as though not even a Hungarian Horntail would be able to rip his attention away from you.

You smiled at Charlie, never were you surer about your decision that you were at this moment.

Bill smiled a genuine smile, you were happy and that was all he’d ever wanted for you, it didn’t matter that he wasn’t the one to make you happy.

A/n:it’s been so long since I’ve written anything and honestly it feels good to post stories again. This one wasn’t requested by anyone it just sorta came to me and I figured it was about time I published something on this site! I hope you guys like it and I’m sorry if it’s a little rough around the edges. I also have an idea of doing a part 2 to this that takes place during Bill’s wedding, let me know if you guys are up for it.

Oh, Bill, so chivalrous! As usual.

I think young Cedric Diggory has a crush on MC.

Wouldn’t we all, Rowan… Wouldn’t we all…

Oooh, how very mysterious.

Bill’s such a charmer when he wants to be. I imagined that Charlie wasn’t at all happy to hear that. In my own little world…

The answer should be obvious. Or is it? Teehee.

Nooooooooo. I wanted to pick the last one! Not that I don’t love Bill. I’m actually shipping my MC with Bill as well as Charlie, but noooooooo. That was my face.
