After everything goes to hell in Kamchatka, Hopper, armed with a flamethrower, tries to survive long enough to escape. As he makes his way through the monster-infested prison, he discovers an isolated wing he’s never seen before. The walls are streaked with blood; the lights are out. Somewhere in the hellish maze, a lone prisoner’s pounding on a door, roaring, “You Commie bastards! Let me the fuck out of here!”
Confused, Hopper stealths through the maze, following the endless chorus of bang bang bang! He turns a corner and finds a cell at the end of a long hallway - the source of all the noise. The door is reinforced, its small window shuttered from outside. The lone occupant howls in despair.
“Somebody! Please!” Bang bang bang!
Hopper creeps forward, his flamethrower casting a glow over the floor. When he steps on broken glass, the sound echoes sharply through the corridor. He freezes. The prisoner stops pounding on the door.
“Who’s there?” they ask lowly.
Their voice is familiar. Frowning, Hopper shifts to his other foot. The prisoner hears his change in posture and mistakes it for a retreat.
“No, please,” they cry, “don’t leave. Let me out. Please, just let me out. I can help you. I-I can kill them. Rip them in half from top to bottom. Because I’m strong, I’m fuckin’ strong. So let me out and I’ll help you. Please, I’ll help you! Just don’t leave me.”
Rip them in half?
Hopper’s frown deepens. Raising his flamethrower, he hurries to the window and yanks the shutter open. A young man looks out at him with the eyes of a wild animal. His skin is covered in grime, his hair hanging in matted tangles around his shoulders.
Hopper stares at him. His eyebrows fall in a bewildered scowl. “Billy Hargrove?”
The prisoner blinks at the sound of his name. He looks Hopper up and down, recognition dawning on his face.
Normal people: Interesting, I wonder what that means
My Billy-soaked brain:
“Round and round / With love we’ll find a way, just give it time…”
Yyyyyeah… the Duffers paid good money for the right to use this song AND THE MUSIC VIDEO for one of Billy’s scenes. And it just so happens to connect him to this interesting theme of cycles…
So was playing the Stranger Things game and noticed this:
I can’t remember if Dr. Owens mentioned a project rainbow in the show, but it’s interesting to see after the teaser for s4. Suggests that Owens was a lot more involved in the experiments on kids than made to believe.
Since I’m trying to remain somewhat spoiler free, I don’t have any theories myself, but @strangerthings4theories maybe this is of interest?
Ooh, this is VERY interesting. I’ve always thought Owens is more involved in the experiments than it first appears, but he has a stronger sense of ethics than Brenner, i.e. a conscience. It’ll probably bring him into conflict with Brenner by the end, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he dies for it.
WAAAAAH I just remembered something!!
InSuspicious Minds, the Brenner novel, we find out the experiment involving El and Kali is called Project Indigo.

There are seven colors in the rainbow:
red,
orange,
yellow,
green,
blue,
purple,
indigo
And guess who gets all the colors of the rainbow splashed on his face at Starcourt?
The storm in his mind is colored like a rainbow, too. You have to watch video or gifs to really see it, but every color occurs in the storm at some point.
If you don’t think Billy would have freaked out and then driven them to the hole himself after finding out what was really going on…I don’t know what to tell you.

Every time I see a Billy ant* ranting in the tags about him returning, it makes me incredibly happy for the simple reason that I love Billy so much that it makes me the most unreliable person to predict his return. I’m so biased by my love for Billy that everything starts looking like a hint.
But if someone who doesn’t want Billy to come back thinks he will, that means that the hints actually are hints, and not just me still being in denial
