2021: The Waratah (Telopea speciosissima) is the New South Wales state flower. These ones are from the Grose Valley side of the Blue Mountains. It is illegal to pick them in the wild; in fact NSW National Parks have been actively spraying them with blue dye is some areas to prevent theft.

Hey guys, I’m still alive. Just realised i haven’t uploaded anything for almost a year. It’s been a rough year so far with work, school and job hunting so it’s nice to be able to create stuff again. I promise I’ll upload more content.✌️

Located below Linda Falls, Leura, where two small streams join to form a pool. The area is known as Fairy Dell. Known by this name prior to 1914.

“Two exqusitely pretty falls converge, these are the Twin Falls, and the home of their grace and charm is aptly called The Fairy Dell.”

The woman in the photo may be Ellen Lucy White, whom George Druce married in 1920.

Pickwick Club members on their two day journey over the Six Foot Track from Katoomba to Jenolan Caves and return.

Members of the Pickwick Club took the names of characters from the Pickwick Papers by Charles Dickens. Alfred Allen (Samuel Pickwick Esq), William Petford Allen (Nathaniel Winkle Esq), William Walters Farmer (Samuel Weller), Kate Ethel Fry (Mrs Bardell), Edith Ada Fry (Aunt Rachel), Mary Amelia Allen (Arabella Allen). The horse’s name is Punch.

Alfred Allen may be seen in both photos holding the camera release string, while the women are looking pretty fed up.

Alfred Allen wrote a description of their trip to Jenolan Caves, with illustrations and tintype photos.

Three Women with a Girl at Britannia Falls, c. 1910

Blue Mountains City Library

Notes: names painted on the rock may include - Jessie Thames, Tilly Sharpe, Stewart Bins. There also appears to be a date of Feb 1909 and the clothing looks pre-war.

Britannia Falls was named by the Wentworth Falls Trustees in 1898 after Margaret Britannia (Brit) Young, nee Murray, daughter of Captain James Somerville Murray and Elizabeth Lilla Murray. James Murray was one of the first Europeans to explore the Valley in 1886.

I found a wonderful free camp in a forest, near a creek. All I vould hear was the light rain, the water flowing in the creek, and the birds. Absolutely gorgeous. There was only one other vehicle. There was a covered picnic table that gave me shelter when it rained. When it didn’t, there was a bush track to walk on. It has so many mushrooms and fungi. This was near Sydney, in the Blue Mountains
