Hello everyone! Apologies for the delay in bringing this list to you, but we are extremely excited to announce our amazing and talented contributors in the Once Upon A Quirk zine!
A little bit about Squid: Hey I’m Squid! All I do is draw in my free time, and sometimes play guitar. Usually I’m drawing fanart comics, but a lot of my art is inspired by nature or music. Usually I like my sketches more than my finished pieces.
His favorite fairy tale and why: I don’t think I have a favorite, but my piece is based on puss in boots because that’s one of my favorites. The cat’s cleverness is hilarious and the antics just become more and more outrageous. Also cats.
A little bit about Sophia: i love…. banana fish…. read banana fish
Her favorite fairy tale and why: My favorite fairy tale might be the Japanese one wherein a boy loves drawing cats, and one of his cat drawings end up coming alive and killing the rat monster in the temple! (I forgot what it was called though..) however! A little detail about my own piece is that it’s based off the Arabian nights :D
A little bit about GIVLM: I do maths by day to feed my tummy and art by night to feed my soul. When I’m not working on zines and merch for artist alleys, I’m working on my webcomic “Waking up at Sunrise.”
Her favorite fairy tale and why: Rapunzel! I can’t remember why anymore but Rapunzel was my favorite fairy tale when I was growing up!
Contributor Spotlight of the day, writer Itsclowreedsfault!
A little bit about Itsclowreedsfault: I’m Thais, a 24-year-old writer from Brazil who owns way too many books and has loved words since she was little. I’ve always enjoyed dreaming up new worlds, and seeing my stories printed on paper never ceases to give me this sense of pride and happiness!
Her favorite fairy tale and why: To be honest, I’m not sure if I’m able to choose a specific fairy tale. I just love them in general! I love the hints of fantasy or magical realism that are always there, the way they’re written sometimes where it’s almost like poetry… I find it really inspiring! My piece for this zine, for example, was inspired by The Wild Swans by Hans Christian Andersen :)
A little bit about Kimi: I am a digital artist who loves to draw fanart, my main focus right now is my hero academia and I am currently doing an on going minicomic series called Villain Waifu deku.
Her favorite fairy tale and why: My favorite fairy tale is hansel and gretel because I always enjoyed the concept of the witch’s house and the witch herself. It was also a pretty dark tale disguised as a child’s story which was intriguing for me,
A little bit about Yixin: I’m an undergrad studying art and computer science. I love to boulder and cook and eat :)
Their favorite fairy tale and why: I painted The Six Swans because it’s one of the ones that left a strong impression on me when my grandparents would read fairy tales with me as a child. I think the image of gathering and weaving nettles to make vests and throwing those into the air is really beautiful.
