#boss but baby

wakquack:

While attempting to translate some panels I got a little stuck! So:

A question to the duck comics readers of all languages - what kind of pet names do the characters use for each other? Because one problem is Scrooge - in German he is Dagobert. He is often called Bertel, which probably is best translated with Scroogey? (Is that how you spell it?) But then he is also sometimes called Bertelchen, with the diminutive affix -chen, which makes it even more of a pet name (the beagle boys do use it too, in a somewhat dismissive yet affectionate manner). What would that be translated as?

And then there is Chefchen, which is even worse. Chef just means ‘boss’, but sometimes Quackmore calls Scrooge Chefchen (or on rare occasions, Jeeves tries to use it on Rockerduck), but what the duck would I translate that as?? Small cute boss?

In general, -chen does give me a lot of trouble. Onkelchen (uncle plus -chen) … are there any instances of a cuter version of “uncle” being used?

Also Donald got called Duckischnuck.

well, you saw my post on onkelchen and unkie… the dagobert -> bertel -> bertelchen evolutionary line and “chefchen” are two things we just have to do without. “chefchen” in particular is a devastating loss. like eight times out of ten he just lets quackmore get away with it. what an incredible detail.

i guess you could further cutesify scroogey as like… scroogey-kins or something horrendous like that.

i think german is one of the most affectionate duck languages in general.
