Neither Kate nor Edwina were in the wrong in their fight.
Edwina was justified in feeling angry at Kate she was lied to (about her feelings for Anthony and their family’s financial situation). And Kate was not wrong for trying to protect Edwina the only way she knew how (remember that when their father died Kate was 18 but Edwina was only 13 so there’s no way she could or should have been privy to that information or stress).
You also need to remember that Edwina wasn’t angry at Kate because she felt Kate was trying to steal Anthony. She wasn’t angry at Kate because she loved Anthony. She was angry at Kate because if she had the full details of what was going on, she would have made entirely different choices for herself and her life, and because of that she felt manipulated. Edwina never would have accepted Anthony’s proposal if she knew Kate loved him.
And on the flip side, Kate never told Edwina her feelings because she didn’t even realize them until the engagement had gone too far, and at that point to stop it would have been scandalous. She had no reason to believe Anthony would want to marry her instead, so if she stopped his union with Edwina her family would have been ruined. Especially because Anthony had just lost Edwina’s dowry and Mary’s inheritance by his actions at the Sheffield dinner. Kate wasn’t acting with her heart, she was acting with her head (just as Anthony did all season long) as was trying to do what she felt was right for the survival of her family.
And yes, Edwina was very angry at Kate for a time. But she also asked Kate about her motivations, why she did it, how she felt, and then she forgave her. Not only that, but she pushed Kate towards Anthony in the final episode and told her to be brave, and then defended their union to the Ton when the Cowpers started gossiping.
Edwina more than made up for her anger to Kate, and she still deeply loves Kate, and if you can’t see that then you simply don’t understand the nuance of humanity. I hope the show never waters down it’s writing just because y’all can’t digest subtly and complicated female relationships.
