YKNOW. I feel like under most circumstances you’d never guess- or you’d maybe know but just as easily forget or just not think about it- that Doc and Biff are nearly the same height. Biff’s got like, two inches on the guy, but you never really see them stand terribly close to each other all that often. Well, other than Buford [same actor], but listen, this was a kneejerk thought and I’m following it and you’re all coming with me <3 I think it’s interesting [and also kinda funny] to think of the consistent ruler between these two guys.

Marty.

Because it’s- it’s something brought up a lot Individually between these two sets, but not really at the same time. That when Marty is around Biff- typically the young one or even Griff, but the same applies as they’re the same height on account of being the same actor ofc but shh- the running gag is literally Biff/Griff standing up tall and absolutely dwarfing Marty.

image
image

It’s threatening! It’s supposed to be! And it’s not something Marty thinks about until confronted with it [considering he gets that look on his face.. every time. Love you, little man]. And you know what else Marty doesn’t think about- and also doesn’t get confronted about or perhaps he would take note?

image

The other over six foot person in his life who does like. Literally the exact opposite. He’s constantly lowering himself to Marty’s level.

And THEN I wondered about if this was something Doc did normally, or if it was something that being around Marty just Teaches Him To Do. DOES he stand straight? HE DOES HE LITERALLY DOES. Right mid “future boy” distrust he not only doesn’t crouch but he LEANS he towers over him just a little extra.

image

Not out of intimidation or anything, but he absolutely does. [Still hunched, but judging by the framing out of universe it was a requirement, in universe I just do Not think Doc has good posture kadsljfa. The leaning over him is still very present.] And then of course, you have to wonder. How quickly did Doc transition into this habit.

LITERALLY LOOK AT THIS

image

He’s at his full height, and then not seconds later, he’s just gone and instinctively hunched to look Marty in the eye. We’ve breached into not even a day of this and as soon as Doc’s clocked Marty as a buddy there he goes.

image

And I know, maybe you’re like, well Sparx, this has just been 55 Doc so far. And 55 Doc is demonstrably a little awkward about having this new fantastic little buddy, maybe in his head he’s just being overly polite and- THINK AGAIN.

image

1985 Doc as well :) You can’t see his legs here but you know. We all know. Doc is Not the same height as Marty and Jennifer. In my head the crouch here looks so funny.

image

Not looking at Marty? Standing full height just fine. Looking at Marty?

image

Lowering himself is Mandatory.

And it just KEEPS HAPPENING. The above bit from the school, in the house- in three when Doc’s getting Marty set to go to 1885.

image

“He was gesturing at his shoes and just stayed there” THINK AGAIN BECAUSE HE’S STILL DOING IT TO TALK TO HIM NOT THIRTY SECONDS LATER

image

AND THEN I THINK THE BEST ONE IN THREE LIKE. This bit always gets me because it’s one of the most intense crouches we get out of Doc and it’s because he’s standing on a platform higher than Marty is but he’s still like, “ah, yes, mustn’t be too towering over my very small best friend. Luckily I have the solution.”

image

It’s interesting! As a comparison observation! But also incredibly funny to me <3 Marty you are completely unaware you are being “how to talk to a short person”ed every day of your life I love you so much.

I never noticed this AND I LOVE IT
