wilder girls pissed me off because it’s genuinely such a good premise and there’s so much that could have been done with it but then it just absolutely falls flat on its face. the potential for metaphors about puberty and femininity is so blatant that it’s almost weirder that it’s explained in a scientific context, especially one that focuses on the island and not the girls themselves. it would have worked far better imo if it had just been left surreal instead of the last second attempt to make it somewhat realistic
