#but you have no right to force it out of me

doomstar:

You know what, fuck people who force writers to reveal their trauma in order to justify the stories they write. No consumer is owed an explanation for the content a creator creates, and no creator should feel obligated to draw from or admit to pain that may or may not be in their life in order to craft a work of fiction.

“I had an idea for a story” is all the justification you need to write one, and all anyone needs to let it be.

And then even if you DO give in and explain the trauma you experienced, they’ll just shove that aside and say “that’s not an excuse to write about it!!!” and then go on about how the story somehow “romanticized” the trauma, or how writing about your trauma is “unhealthy” (which is the opposite of what any mental health professional will tell you), or even just say “this just proves you’re ‘messed up in the head’ then if you experienced something traumatic and then WROTE about it!!”

These kinds of people are not looking to protect anyone—they’re looking to bully, and they will use any method possible to paint someone as an acceptable target.
