anyways, japanese imperialism is not a thing of the past and still exists today. japanese propaganda is in the little things, and to end it you have to recognize them. stop glorifying the rising sun flag. pay attention to how japanese media treats its korean characters as opposed to the white ones. be on your guard when anyone or anything implies that japan is in any way superior to other asian countries. above all, listen to and support any poc who has been affected by japanese imperialism.

you can reblog this post instead of liking it btw

oh for real, y’all have NO idea how much a lot of asian countries still hate japan because of what they did during their (blatant) imperialist era.

china and korea vehemently hate their ass. a lot of southeast asian countries hate them too (look up ‘Greater East Asia Co Prosperity Sphere’). they invaded countries and went on rampages. they pillaged and razed villages. they raped the local women and killed babies. to this day my grandparents still talk about it and tell me their personal stories: how their house was burnt; how the japanese soldiers would storm into homes and steal food then beat the men or kill them outright; how japanese soldiers threw babies into the air and bayoneted them; how people would get slapped in the face or got beat up for forgetting to bow to passing japanese soldiers (it’s not even cultural for southeast asians to bow in greeting). in my country alone, there have been hundreds of ‘comfort women’ that have been demanding for reparations from the japanese government and they’ve always been rebuffed and gaslighted by them. korea is the same and japan has since demanded they take down statues related to comfort women.

japan has never apologized for its war crimes and also does not teach that history in their schools. it’s been erased. japan uses propaganda a lot too to make themselves look better. there’s a reason so many countries are mad at them.

im not saying you should hate them, but pls know this history and be aware and critical of it. when asians are getting riled up about the rising sun design, there is a reason. when asians are getting mad about hetalia, there is a reason. when asians are criticizing japan, there is a reason. it’s not just the land of uwu and anime; it’s an unapologetic imperialist country that’s very blatantly covered up the atrocities they committed to the people of the countries they invaded and destroyed.

please also remember the philippines in these posts! japanese soldiers led filipino and american soldiers to their death during the bataan death march, barricaded doors to churches and burnt them to the ground during services, sexually assaulted and dismembered filipina women and have yet to recompensate us as well. the bahay na pula (red house), infamous as a murder site where hundreds of women were also attacked, is still up today. comfort women from that era are still alive today. my grandfather, who only passed away last august, was a part of that history. while being racist towards a country and its people is also not the answer, don’t glorify them and sweep it all under the rug because it’s in the past. talk about it because it’s not history; its our present, and if the problem persists, its our future as well.

If you’re interested, knowing better talked about this a few years back also

what really fucking bothers me in conversations about racism and saying that some work has racist elements people always counter with “I don’t think the author had deliberate racist ideology in mind” cause it’s like that doesn’t fucking matter. it doesn’t have to be deliberate to be racist. most people don’t go hee hee hoo hoo I’m gonna put racist things in this. everyone was raised in a racist society and covert racism exists and yes needs to be examined in ourselves and everywhere and yes even in works you like author “deliberate” intent or no

this applies to other forms of bigotry too. listen to the voices of those who have to live under systemic oppression

You know what, fuck people who force writers to reveal their trauma in order to justify the stories they write. No consumer is owed an explanation for the content a creator creates, and no creator should feel obligated to draw from or admit to pain that may or may not be in their life in order to craft a work of fiction.

“I had an idea for a story” is all the justification you need to write one, and all anyone needs to let it be.

And then even if you DO give in and explain the trauma you experienced, they’ll just shove that aside and say “that’s not an excuse to write about it!!!” and then go on about how the story somehow “romanticized” the trauma, or how writing about your trauma is “unhealthy” (which is the opposite of what any mental health professional will tell you), or even just say “this just proves you’re ‘messed up in the head’ then if you experienced something traumatic and then WROTE about it!!”

These kinds of people are not looking to protect anyone—they’re looking to bully, and they will use any method possible to paint someone as an acceptable target.

All Kris had to do was follow Susie to the supply closet to retrieve some chalk, yet moments later, they’re a mere twenty-four hours away from the worldwide reveal of Charles Feldman’s Y2K plan.

(Context and a better look at the sprites under the cut!)

I initially didn’t plan on making an entire post for this, but given the effort that went into it (Even if it looks identical to the source material at first glance), I figured it was worthy of showing on my main blog!

As of a few days ago (As a result of my good friend @minxxikuo being a big fan of it and with the veryrecent release of Chapter Two), I decided to give Deltarune a go, and man am I glad that I did. It may have been a good five years since I’ve even touched anything having to do with Undertale, yet Deltarune does enough differently from its predecessor that it’s a whole new experience entirely!

Though, my experience with Deltarune so far isn’t necessarily the point of this post (Though you can find similar insight in the tags). Rather, once I discovered that there was a meme where Kris and Susie find themselves in varying media that isn’tDeltarune (Much to Susie’s frustration), I just had to make a contribution to it.

And what better way to do that than by putting the human and monster duo in the world of Override— specifically, this scene? I went into the creation of it knowing only Knives and whoever else I decided to show it to would understand it to its fullest, though it ended up looking so good that I decided I ought to post it!

The original Deltarune sprites are featured on the left, whereas my Override-styled interpretations are on the right side! Kris was particularly easy to draw a sprite for, the only thing that was challenging for them was trying to match their body type to their original sprite, as well as stylizing their hair.

I was anticipating spriting Susie would be a muchmore daunting task (Because of her overall design coupled with the fact that I had to redraw a veryspecific frame of her), though resizing the sprite just a notch and adding some finer details (Like the pocket on her jacket, the belt loops on her pants and a whole ton of shading) made the process much easier.

Then, there was the fact that I had to recreate the general scene where Lauren’s out investigating the SGN-DRN crash— really, I still had all of the sprites, the toughest thing about the recreation was getting the lighting (Which I didn’t have on-hand) to look as identical as possible to the original. Suffice to say, I think I got pretty close!

For a joke I only intended on showing a couple of people, I’m still really proud of it, and am happy to have put my spriting smarts to good use for such a creative meme!

I like reading tags on my Elias drawings.

Why did I always have nightmares where I would be naked in front of people!?

I’m going to give a video description, but below the break.

Video description: filmed in a lit tunnel with two lanes of road, that turns to the left. It is seen through a car’s windshield. Sometimes the camera zooms back to show the dash and sometimes zooms forward. The left lane disappears into a hole at the corner. Car drives by and suddenly slows as it changes to right lane. Second car drives by quickly, only to apply brakes and move to right lane to avoid hole and not rear end first car. And reflections of both cars are visible in the ‘hole’ which is revealed to be a puddle the covers the left lane.

Camera & car drive forward, closer to the water and the corner. Car continues to drive down tunnel.

audio: “Holy fuck, bro. I just went in this on ramp, there’s no signs blocking it off and I thought I was fuckin’ high.

"That’s just a pit. On the on ramp. What the fuck. They don’t have this shit blocked off or nothing. (turn signal audible) Watch, this guy’s coming. There’s a guy coming behind me (interjection of AI voice "ayy-yo”). Yeah. Where’s he going to fucking go? “

turn signal

very soft, 'oh, oh’

"Holy Shit! Oh, it’s water. I am high. I’m not actually high, but holy fuck, bro. It looks like a pit, doesn’t it? Shiiit, it’s water. Motherfucker. I just thought they carved out a hole. I’m trippin’.

"Whew. Alright. ?

123 I Could Bear You All Day

a silly thing for @flashfictionfridayofficial, content warning for swearing and two people Clearly Not Getting Along, 526 words

~~~
“Fate has brought us here together, on this joyously sunny day, to unite us–possibly forever-”
“Could you. Shut. The fuck. Up.” Rosella has finally stopped leveling me with icy cold stares and progressed to cursing, which, honestly, my day can’t get any better. That is, sure there was room for improvement.
Like I could have some cool water while I am stuck on some country road outside of my car with my greatest adversary, because my car is out of battery and neither of us has cell-signal (of course not), under the scorching sun of the mid-August summer.
But any aggravation is worth it alone for the fact that Rosella is stuck here with me. For which she had to–well, that’s a long story. But she had to ask me for help, which had sweetened my day to such an extent that nothing could spoil this for me. So now she sits on the side of the road, stains of sweat under her arms, a strand of her hair falls out of her insanely sleek ponytail.
For a second, I am sad that I didn’t get her cursing on video, no one else would ever believe me that she voluntarily took such foul language into her mouth. But then I will never forget this moment, forever ingrained in my memory, as I was not only right next to her as she did it but also the recipient of the curse, so I feel mollified.
Without even bothering to hide my self-satisfied smirk, I walk a few steps into the cornfield and break off a long green leaf to give my fingers anything to do. The plants are already higher than me, lend a tiny bit of shadow. As long as my fingers are occupied, it is easier to resist talking. There’s the endlessly growing need inside of my stomach to break the silence that just won’t get comfortable, but I am stronger than that, so much pettier than that.
Whatever I’d say will only annoy her anyway, and I got her to curse before. So. I basically already won.
While I rip the corn leaf to shreds, in lieu of punching Rosella in her stupid face or at least pushing her into a puddle of dirt to ruin her subtle make-up, I try to think how to jump-start a car. There was something about the batteries, no? Some sequence as how to connect the positive and negative poles in order not to die.
No matter how much glee the current situation filles me with, I sure as hell won’t die alone with Rosella. Perhaps she knows how to jump-start a car, as should be expected of a straight A’s student, the ‘pleasure to have in class’ and so forth.
If only there would finally be another car driving down this road so we’d get the opportunity.
The sigh escapes me before I remember to hide my weakness and, indeed, Rosella takes the cue to glare at me once again.
I break off a new leaf and spare a cheeky grin. My car’s battery may be dead, but I still have so much energy for this trip.
You are an asshole.
Seriously if you need fanfiction to teach you what healthy and normal relationships are like, you don’t need fanfiction you need resources geared towards teaching you what healthy and non-abusive relationships are like.
Please go to scarleteen. Please watch MamaDoctorJones’ episode about consent. Please go to people who are actively, explicitly, and specifically trying to teach you about healthy relationships and consent, and crucially, people who have the qualifications to teach you these topics. A fanfic writer might be: secretly a thirteen year old, someone who’s just gotten out of or is still in an abusive relationship and has internalized hurtful messages about relationships because of their abuse, someone who’s bad at writing, someone from an abstinence-only sex education background, someone who has no relationship experience, someone who has different boundaries around sex than their reader, or someone who assumes their readers are all adults who understand what abuse is and the fact that it’s bad and you shouldn’t do it in real life. None of these hypothetical writers deserve to be banned from writing. None of these hypothetical writers deserve to receive abuse for what they’ve written. None of these hypothetical writers should be taken as educational resources about important topics like consent, sexuality, sexual health, or sex education.
There ARE resources out there that are created with the express aim of teaching people, especially young people, what a healthy relationship is supposed to look like. For the most part, though, random fanfiction writers aren’t those people, and that’s okay! They shouldn’t have to be. Fanfiction is entertainment, and it doesn’t have to beat the reader over the head with a moralistic message. Fanfiction writers assume, and should be able to assume, that their readers understand the purpose of fiction and aren’t using fiction as a replacement for actual educational material about sexual health and domestic violence.
In fact, it’s actually fucked up and mega super dangerous to actual real people, particularly children, to act like fanfiction is a replacement for education about domestic violence and sexual abuse. Real sexual health and domestic violence support groups and organizations spend lots of time and money trying to get the public educated about consent and healthy relationships, and we should listen to those people instead of acting like consent is a topic that should or can be learned from osmosis through reading fanfiction or watching media.
Especially considering, you know, how much our culture plays fast and loose with the concept of consent, blames victims of abuse, and generally portrays myths around sex, abuse, and relationships.
Normalize regularly reading and rereading nonfiction guides to healthy relationships. Normalize regularly practicing nonsexual consent, checking in with people if they seem uncomfortable or before starting a conversation about heavy topics, taking “no” for an answer, respecting boundaries (yours and other peoples’) without demanding in-depth explanations of why they exist, making others feel safe setting boundaries around you, etc. Normalize reading multiple sources, examining sources, and asking yourself “Who wrote this? Why did they write it? What credibility do they have? Should I listen to them?” instead of just taking absolutely everything you read at face value.
Here’s some starting links:
https://www.scarleteen.com/article/politics_relationships_sexual_identity_sexuality/my_one_and_only
Fanfiction can’t and shouldn’t be used as an exclusive resource to teach you the things the above sites can teach you.
It would be cool if people realized that and stopped expecting random fanfic writers to start every fictional work they write with the express purpose of teaching their audience how sex and relationships are supposed to work. Instead of abusing fanfic writers who explore taboo topics, read and share resources that can actually help people learn about consent and healthy relationships. Because as someone who used to exclusively read fluff, a lot of fluffy fic writers don’t know SHIT about consent and teaching kids and teens that they should look to random strangers as examples of healthy relationships is fucked up.
Omg somebody f***ing put it into words!!
Thank you!! Fanfiction is not a substitute for relationship, abuse, sex and consent education!!
There are actual professional people who are trained to teach this sh*t. Don’t rely on fiction!!
