Bwonsamdi and I have lost the battle against his health. He started to pee only blood last week. I scheduled him to be put down today, I just got back from dropping off his body at the crematorium. This was my last picture of him that I took today. He had a good day today. He had chocolate cereal this morning and his favorite foods yesterday and today. He was on pain killers this past week to keep him comfortable. I’m glad he had a good day.
Bwonsamdi has had his yums, it’s cuddle time. I can’t help but love my big boy. He has had a urinary tract infection so he is on medication for that. He is a medical mess but I try the best I can to help him out.
Bwonsamdi also thinks the snuffle mat and sunflower seeds are the best. I know I never officially said this, but he hates the other two passionately. He will walk around their cage and hiss at them if I let him. During introductions, it started out just fine, but Bwonsamdi escalated aggressive behavior. He was out for blood after week two. At least they pulled him out of his depression after Jani passed away.
Bwonsamdi gets a nice, healthy breakfast! He has spinach, snow peas, a grape from our garden, carrots, a nut mix made up of raw almonds, walnuts, pecans, and roasted, unsalted sunflower kernels, and to top it off, a few pieces of rat blocks.
I have been really busy the past few months with Bwonsamdi. He had really dark pee for months and it never cleared up. My vet here didn’t do a blood draw so I had to take him about an hour and a half away to get tested. Finally I got an answer for it, he is diabetic. It’s a little rough because I can only manage his diet. The vets aren’t willing to give him insulin. He has been acting much more energetic with his set meal times, less kibble, more veggies, and more protein.
Bwonsamdi is getting along with Moomoo and Obsidian in neutral territory now. I realize getting all black rats when I take pictures of them is… Not exactly the best idea. I do love the all black mischief. I’m letting them take a nap together before putting them to bed. They are still in separate cages but it won’t be for forever. I’m just a super happy mommy because it is the first time they are at peace and not doing their dominance crap.
I think they love the snuffle mat I bought them. Bwonsamdi thinks it’s not just fun to find food in, but also a super nice to sleep on. I know it’s not Christmas yet but they needed enrichment.
Mawm why must we suffer while you clean our cage? This is torture of the highest degree!
I am preparing to start the cage cleaning and it’s very hard with these little faces. I know babies, but mommy has to get started somehow.

Such sleepy babies. Bwonsamdi and Jani love when I clean their cage. They are definitely outliers in appreciating things being cleaned up and barely move things around. They are such good babies. I wish I could take them out but even our yard is out of the question. The hawk family has still been hanging out. This rat mommy needs to get energy to go out and get things for a set. I just have no ideas right now.
Bwonsamdi is just too cute. I love that little face. I was planning on going out and about this year with the boys but uh… Everything has happened, mommy is vulnerable to the virus and needs to stay home as much as she can.
They are just too precious. Such good babies today.
It was an enrichment day. I stuck super worms in it and they had to find it. Just ignore the background noise.

I got them together, ha! They don’t hang out with each other much. Such a rare thing! There was a lot of squeaking involved. Bwonsamdi and Jani scream at each other when they are grooming each other. No blood, not even a scratch, just drama queens.

Bwonsamdi is so precious. We say happy Easter and now that mommy has such a nice phone camera we can probably start set shoots again. My little point and shoot I used to take pictures with was defunct. So happy to be taking better quality pictures again.
