May 7, 2022 - Brown Cacholote (Pseudoseisura lophotes)
These ovenbirds are found in forests and open woodlands in parts of Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, Brazil, and Argentina. Foraging mostly on the ground in pairs or small flocks, they eat insects, as well as some birds’ eggs and fruit. They build bulky stick nests with entrance tubes on horizontal branches in small trees or scrub. Females lay two to four eggs. Both parents incubate the eggs and feed the chicks.
