Inktober starts tomorrow!!! This year, I’ll be inking the adventures of Roshni and Olive. I’ll be using three prompt lists, picking whichever one fits the story best that day. Planning on doing everything traditionally, so excited!! What are you guys planning for @inktober?
May 2, 2022 - Mountain Elaenia (Elaenia frantzii)
Found from southern Mexico into Colombia and Venezuela, these tyrant flycatchers live in scrubby habitats and forest edges. They feed on insects, spiders, berries, and seeds, plucking food from plants or the ground in short flights. Females build cup-shaped nests from rootlets, mosses, liverworts, lichens, and other materials and incubate the eggs.
May 1, 2022 - Böhm’s Bee-eater (Merops boehmi)
These bee-eaters are found in parts of Malawi, The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mozambique, Tanzania, and Zambia in woodlands and the edges of forests, mostly near streams and rivers. Foraging in pairs or small flocks, they eat insects, including bees, beetles, grasshoppers, cicadas, and flies, capturing their prey in the air. Pairs dig nest burrows in the ground near paths or clearings.
April 30, 2022 - Rufous-throated Antbird (Gymnopithys rufigula)
Found in northeastern South America, in parts of Brazil, French Guiana, Guyana, Suriname, and Venezuela, these antbirds live in rainforests. They follow army ants, capturing insects as they flee the swarms. Their cup-shaped nests are made of dry palm leaves and other fibers in tree cavities or stumps. Females lay clutches of two eggs. Both parents incubate the eggs and feed the chicks.
April 29, 2022 - Grey-bellied Cuckoo or Indian Plaintive Cuckoo (Cacomantis passerinus)
Found in much of South Asia, these cuckoos live in forests, shrublands, grasslands, and agricultural areas. Some populations migrate. They eat a variety of insects, particularly caterpillars. Brood parasites, females lay a single egg in the nest of a warbler, leaving their chick to be cared for by the other birds.
