Backgrounds for Cancer Concept Animation Project (Part 2)

These backgrounds are centered around the clinic in the story. More backgrounds and project explanation in Part 1.

The doctor character is a lion so I went ridiculously literal with the design for the clinic building. It used to look like a normal clinc until I was like, “Why am I trying to make this a real building? This isn’t like my day job (which is at an architecture office), I can make it as ridiculous as I want!”

I also particularly enjoyed making fake medical posters for the examining room. One is a primate heart and the other is a canine skull.

Backgrounds for Cancer Concept Animation Project (Part 1)

This story takes place in a world where all the characters are animals. These background show the main character’s home. He’s a penguin. The goal of the project is to entertain and educate children about cancer in a lighthearted, hopeful tone. My primary contribution was as a Background Artist, but I designed some props and a minor character too.  

This was my first time making backgrounds and I’m pretty happy with how they came out. I’ve always been a fan of animation and I was excited to try this kind of stuff. Big thanks to Vincent Lee who gave me a chance to be a part of this project!

Sorry I’ve been so absent, guys. I’ve been finishing up a large project and struggling with motivation, so I haven’t had much time or energy to post. 

BUT I’ve just wrapped up my work on the large project and I can now share it with you guys!

I’ll post some final stuff soon so I’ll talk more about it on those posts. For now, I’ll just explain that the project is an animation which takes place in an animal world. And I was in charge of designing backgrounds and a couple things. These are some background color tests that I like!
