Dendê is a recurrent topic in Capoeira Angola songs, and gave the name to my group@dende_de_mare .The Dendê-nut, fruit of the dendezeiro (Elaeis guineensis, also known as african oil palm) is used to make azeite de dendê, essential ingredient of Salvador de Bahia’s mundane and sacred cuisine. The oil palm was brought from the african continent to brazil probably at the same time as the first enslaved people, and is an important link to origins and ancestrality.
