In the thirteenth century, a castle was built on a stony spit in the middle of Loch Ranza harbour, and passed between many vassals of kings through the centuries. Today a ruin, jackdaws maintain a regal presence in the high places of the battlements. It is a very eerie and peaceful place, perfect for a morning walk (though I did go slip-sliding through the muck. It turns out Birkenstocks don’t have the greatest traction on tidal flats!
