no but the way that for both buffy and spike it is all about belonging. buffy just wants to be normal, whatever that is, and have a normal life because that’s what’s expected of her, because she feels that in that way she’ll be able to belong. but she’s always going to be different because she’s the slayer, and even after she accepts that it’s still isolating and even with faith and later the potentials she’s still different because of the things she’s been through. spike just wants to love and be loved in return and he never really belonged in life, not with any of his peers or even with his family, after death he even doubts his mother’s love for him and he never belonged with dru, not really, and angelus and darla never accepted him and then later all that he has left is being a vampire but that gets taken away from him and he feels like he doesn’t belong in the darkness but also not in the light and —
