We’ve seen many faces of Lexa but this one here was the only time she looked the saddest and most defeated. She loved Clarke with every fiber of her being despite the decisions she had to make that seemingly refute this very truth. After Mt Weather, she let go of all hope that the woman will ever return her feelings. Her only solace was having Clarke near her, being able to keep her safe. It was more than enough for Lexa for her love was selfless that she will have her anyway or in any form possible. But knowing Clarke was leaving, knowing that the next time they see each other again might be in battle where she will be powerless to protect her, or that they may never see each other again just destroyed all the walls she meticulously built around her. Despite the ache and longing that was bordering desperation, Lexa smiled softly telling Clarke it’s okay. Telling the woman she loves that she understand… and Clarke knew that Lexa might be the only one to ever truly understand… And so when Clarke leaned in and kissed Lexa, it was too much and too little. It was everything she dreamed of but never truly believed she will get. It was beautiful. It was perfect.
In fact, what upset her so much was seeing the love and sadness in Clarke’s eyes. Clarke was finally starting to get close and show her feelings.. Clarke’s reaction when Lexa was going to fight Roan, drawing a picture of her while she was sleeping, was big strides despite Clarke’s anger. Having to leave at a time when their relationship began to evolve from collaborating for their people to a deep love and Clarke now cares about Lexa as much as her own people. Lexa wouldn’t have been so upset if Clarke had recklessly decided to leave Polis.. it ruined her to see the loving Clarke in front of her.
