April 15, 1987 issue #115 of Amazing Heroes was published making it the first ever comics swimsuit special ever published. Thus creating history as swimsuit specials became a staple of the comic book industry for years to come.
This is all thanks to the inception of the great mind of Mark Waid. So if you want to blame some one than blame him.
And of course there’s the question of “are swimsuit specials sexist?”
Nah! Let’s make them anyway.
It’s almost summer and things are heating up. Time to hit the beach and read some Swimsuit specials and 90’s bad girls comics.

After all of those cringe worthy swimsuit specials and bad girls comics I have been reading lately I figured it would be high time that I gave gem a read. As funny as the title maybe, Sexual Transmitted Diseases are a serious issue. However the funny thing is why Ninja High School and not a more mainstream comic property. Except for an obscure 70’s Spider-Man comic about abstinence I have never seen a mainstream property come close to publishing PSA for S.T.D.s or safe sex. And they should, I looking at you Archie. Well anyway the actual answer is that the creator of Ninja High School and founder of Antarctic Press Ben Dunn has a brother, Joeming Dunn, who just so happens to be a doctor that wanted to better educate young people about S.T.D.s. So here we go, let’s get Educated.
We’re off to an awkward start with some period shaming then move right on to comedic timing with a guy feeling symptoms right after mentioning sex.
From there the comic becomes an informative pamphlet with the occasional silly image.
This comic is actually not bad at teaching about the viruses and does so in a way that is easy to understand.
These silly images quickly go from funny to yikes.
And as quickly as the issue starts it ends with very little information on how to practice safe sex, how to get tested, or where to find more information.
Anyway with that out of the way time for something fun entertaining.
