but I finally managed to sit down and go through photos. Early spring is also Grack season, and I am sure you all have missed more photos of them, so here we go. These are several individual birds, some of them are more purple, others more blue/ green. One of them is a big male that is missing part of the lower beak. I think the first one is a female, and I would love to hear some expert thoughts on my theory that the females don’t have the bright eyes that the males have - if you zoom in you can see her eye is different from the rest of them (it might be bs but I am curious). It’s no secret that I love the Grackles, and today they delivered quite the show :D Two males are competing for a female. It is a bit longer but worth it, I promise. Sound on!
Oh no, make no mistake: Common Grackles are criminals! No one wants to hang out with them cause they’re big ole jerks.
They’ll chase out and attack other birds if they want exclusive access to a food source. They can also become even more aggressive if they’re nesting, leading them to attack people. There are numerous college campuses that have had to issue warnings to avoid the birds.
Not to mention that the huge flocks mentioned in the article can cause thousands and thousands of dollars in crop damages. They love to eat grain and can strip a young corn cob like it’s nothing.
