#cool motive still murder
Honestly I will always be grateful to Brooklyn 99 for giving us “cool motive, still murder” as a quick, no-frills response to all these weak white boy villains with woe-is-me backstories that fandoms inevitably try to woobify.
Honestly, I feel like “cool motive; still murder” is muchmore useful as a response to all the supposed good guys and heroes who do terrible and/or boneheaded things that are then justified because they had good intentions. Because let’s face it, most villains don’t actually have a cool motive for the murders they commit, but supposedly cool motives are used to justify murders (and other shitty stuff) done by the good guys all the time.
I mean, just look how it rolls off the tongue:
- Tony Stark wanted to keep the world safe when he created a psychotic AI who nearly reduced the entire planet to rubble? Cool motive. Still murder.
- Nick Fury planned to use the hellicarriers that can kill any person on the planet to target only terrorists? Cool Motive. Still murder.
- Peggy Carter thought she could control the ex-Hydra operatives she brought in to help build SHIELD? Cool motive. Still murder.
- Barry Allen lured violent metahumans into a fatal trap because they had tried to kill him? Cool motive. Still murder.
- Matt Murdock feels comfortable throwing criminals off buildings because there’s a convenient dumpster at the bottom? Cool motive. Still (probably; at the very least attempted) murder.
- Everything SHIELD has done, like, ever? Cool motive. Still murder.
Seriously, I feel like at this stage I could slap this GIF on the entire superhero genre and it would save a hell of a lot of time.
