Twenty-two years old…

Well, it’s really a lifetime for me. So let me tell to you how much this lady is important to me.

When I was young, with 7 years old to be more accurate, my father worked a lot and when he arrived home, my younger sister and I were sleeping. One day he came early with a box, I remember my mother complain how expensive and useless this box was, but that’s ok! He was home.

In this box was the first original game we bought… In the cover a beautiful woman, the future inspiration in my teenager’s years, and a promise of have him with us for more time.

Install the game was our first challenge… When we had sound, we didn’t have image and when the image came… Where are the sound?

The game was in English, of course, and none of us talked English in that time… Well, my father still doesn’t speak English and I don’t speak it very well, but I think it’s enough for now… But in that time, it was a challenge too.

I was seven, as I said, but I remember sit by his side and watch how the brave woman jump so faraway and kill her enemies. I remember in the beginner of the game when the woman was inside of the chilly cave how the wolves and the bats scared me! My sister was screaming and hiding her face and my father and mother laught! Every new room everyone was scared and laught, it was a new fun experience!

In that time I discovered that I was a good observer, I always found the secret places!!

My father always toyed us saying that the woman was very strong and beautiful so he was going to marry her! And my little sister always cried and said he will never left mom! It was fun, the brave woman was alive! Oh! I forgot to say, as I said, we didn’t speak English in that time, and we didn’t read the little book showed in the photo above, in fact, I was seven and my sister four, we didn’t read too much, but ok… Because of this we named the brave woman as “Tomb Raider” because it was the name of the game, right?

Because of this little box my father began to back early to home and we spent a lot of time together playing.

I remember the times when we got stuck in a puzzle… Sometimes my father dreamed with the answer and he called us in the middle of night to play and try again! I remember the monkeys… Well, I don’t remember if they’re monkeys… But the creatures in the “Unfinished Bussiness” always toyed my father and we laught of him! I remember the Midas touch, we died too much! I remember my father pondering “if we jump in the water, will she go under? She has three metal bars in her bag!”.

I remember my father draw a puzzle in our chair and put it in front of him, so he could look at it while watch TV. I don’t remember which puzzle… I was very young!

So much memories! We always locked her butler in the freezer, we always hit her on the wall to hear her mutter, whenever she found a secret we would say “a-ha!” with her in unison.

And when we finish this… We wanted more. In time, my sister and I grew up, my brother was born and we continue like this, playing every game, like a family tradition.

Now I have 29 years old and I never played the first Tomb Raider although I know it by heart. Just doesn’t seem right play… Ok, I must admit, I’m still afraid of those wolves and bats! hahaha

My boyfriend loves the new Tomb Raider games and he doesn’t understand why I can’t see it as “Tomb Raider”… So he asked me why I love so much the classical Tomb Raider, because for him, it’s old, ugly and hard to play (“we don’t even use the mouse!” he always say). I must admit, the new games are good games, they are beautiful and so forth. But she isn’t real to me, she isn’t the same woman I remember… She’s a different woman, a namesake… I don’t know…

When I think about my Lara, the real Lara, the classic Lara, it doesn’t matter… When I think about her I always smile because I remember how I was happy in the time she was in my life.

She will always be my inspiration, my friend, my super heroine … I will always be grateful to her, because even without knowing she’s the woman who helped to transform my house into a home.
