my only real opinion on the 5e module besides like, what the glaring issues are, is that redemption is a power fantasy too and how can you expect people to go through a realm dripping with grief and cycles of violence and expect it to be solved through more of the same?
if your players want to redeem strahd or help him instead of kill him then let them struggle to do it but let there be a way to do it, it isn’t wrong or bad to want there to be something romantic and loving in a monster and i don’t care who tries to moralize that. and of course, that applies to all the incredibly nasty people in this module. just make sure everyone is on the same page like any other ttrpg and having fun and you are winning, and don’t punish people for hoping especially if their whole heart is in it omg
