The reason the Delta variant developed is that the US (at least, I don’t know the state of other first-world countries and their vaccine supplies) hoarded the vaccine unnecessarily, creating a fucking petri dish of the global south that literally anyone familiar with virology could tell you was a breeding ground for mutations. This was inevitable because of the way the countries that developed the vaccine went about distribution of the vaccine, not because of the vaccine itself.
Would also like to add that not releasing the patent of the vaccine was also a contributing factor. With countires unable to produce the vaccine for themselves and being completely at the mercy of pharma companies looking to make bank off the vaccine, it allowed Delta to reach the level it is at.

I finally got my first covid shot yesterday and it went really well despite how terrified i am of needles! Although i’d be lying if i said it wasn’t at least partially because the lady who gave me the shot was gorgeous
the government makes me so fucking angry. just close the borders. it’d be sad for ppl that have family abroad but we can’t keep living like this. the whole country being forced into living like this for longer than necessary bc of an incompetent government is more important than travelling abroad rn
My employer has been telling people who come into the establishment where I work that thousands of people have died from the covid vaccine, that it’s better if you get covid because you are then more immune than people who “only get the vaccine”, that children will suffer adverse effects caused by being masked for years and falling behind in school, that vaccine mandates are bullshit made up by bureaucrats, that it is pointless to get a flu vaccine now because the flu is gone because it has been replaced by covid, that it will only calm down when everybody gets it, that most people “have nothing to worry about, it’s just a respiratory virus like the flu”, that masks don’t work because particles are microscopic, has cited the joe rogan podcast as his source for a great deal of the aforementioned misinformation, and tells people that humans have evolved to thrive on a ketogenic diet and that people on the keto diet have been known to lose 40 lbs in less than 10 weeks and can reverse heart disease and diabetes with keto.
Mum and I are still quarantined because we are pozitive, but my brothers finally got negative tests and could do something about dad’s passing. The hospital staff let relatives see the dead through a window.
