Alright quick lore:

There are 2 companies in the region vying for control: the Alyssian Maritime Commission and the Leidenmaar-Sankaran Trading company

(AMC and LSTC) they often fight each other to control the trade routes and resources, the former trading in furs, cotton, silk and tea, with the latter trading in porcelain, spice, cinnamon and Dyes. Sometimes they have to work together to handle the rampant piracy going around.
