what still fucks me up is that there’s still no Bastille song that’s completely happy. Sure, Admit Defeat and Club 57 are upbeat and about love, but there’s still a tinge of sadness to them, as if the narrator has doubts about an actual relationship forming. The Silence and Flaws are self deprecating and upbeat, but there’s nothing that explicitly suggests that the narrator is speaking to a love interest, it could just be platonic. And don’t get me started on all of the songs about relationships falling apart or the lover beinf unobtainable. There’s something that’s so melancholic about Bastille’s music- even in the happiest of songs, there’s still a nagging doubt or a sad musical note that doesn’t let the listener be in a complete state of romantic euphoria. It’s tragically and beautifully depressing

I JUST REALIZED WHAT THE INTRO OF STAY AWAKE REMINDS ME OF!!!

In Veins, Dan goes “We just want to get off, not like they’re getting off”

and it’s a double meaning of wanting to leave a train and being horny,

and in Stay Awake, the intro goes “I want to get off”

meaning that he wants to unplug from the internet, but also meaning that he’s horny!

It’s the same lyric and the same double meaning, despite being written ~13 years apart!
