You chased Ulli down the hallway and she shrieked as you caught her by the hair and slammed her against the wall. You turned her around and slapped her in the face. You raised your arm to strike her again, but your mother grabbed you around the waist and pulled you away from her.

“Y/N!”, calm down she pleaded loudly as you struggled against her hold, “Y/N, please!”

Frigga rushed to Ulli’s side and held her, wiping away the blood from her nose with her handkerchief.

“You fucking bitch!” You screamed at her as she sobbed, “After all that I’ve done for you?! After everything that I’ve gone through?!” Your voice started to break, “You know you’re wrong for this, Ulli! You know in the depths of your heart that you are wrong, cousin!”

“Darling, darling, please calm down.” Your mother begged you as it became harder for her to keep you from striking Ulli again.

“No! I will not calm down, mother!!” You yelled with tears of anger now flowing down your face and your whole body shaking with rage, “I live with a family of monsters because of you! All because I was stupid enough to try and protect you! I should have let you be hunted in the woods like a fucking animal and taken by one of these wretched nobles to be abused until your death like you deserve!”

Frigga turned to you wild eyed, “You are the animal! Ulli understands how lucky she is to have the attention of a prince of Asgard, but you,” she sneered, “You have been ungrateful since you have come to the palace! And look at you now, running through corridors and committing violence with no regard for the safety of your child again!”

You wrestled from your mother’s grasp and slapped Frigga, eliciting a gasp from everyone standing in the hallway.

“I am more than just my fucking baby, you old evil hag bitch!”

Frigga held her face and stared at you in disbelief, “How dare you!” She finally growled, “You vicious little -“

You grabbed Frigga by the collar of her dress and hissed, “You are not fit to sit on the throne of Asgard as its queen, for your cold heart is better suited for the icy wasteland that is Jotunheim and your worthless soul for Hel!”

You suddenly felt a strong hand grab your arm and yank you down the hallway roughly, you nearly lost your footing as you were dragged before you realized what was happening. You looked up and Loki had you in his grasp, not even looking at you. He walked at a furiously quick pace and you could see how red his face was. You heard your mother calling helplessly for him to come back.

Loki took you to your shared quarters and slammed you against the bedroom wall. He held you by your neck and choked as he put his nose to yours. His bright green eyes were pitch black with fury and looked as though he wanted to kill you.

He let out a shuddering exhale before speaking in a frightently calm tone, “I do not have the patience to bring Ingrid here to take your punishment.”

You clawed at his hands as you struggled to breathe, fear now overtaking your anger.

“You, you insignificant little peasant cunt. You struck the queen of Asgard. You struck my mother. You insulted myfamily. If it were not for that little bastard in your belly I would have your head on a pike for such transgressions.”

“Loki,” You croaked out as you struggled to breathe, “Loki, please.”

“Our wedding is in three days and you willunderstand one thing. Our marriage does not make you an equal in this family. It is purely to keep you in your place, which you have clearly forgotten. So I will remind you.”

Loki backhanded you, making you fall to the floor. You wheezed as you tried to catch your breath and he straddled you then hit you again. Loki used his brute strength to restrain your hands above your head and then pulled up your skirts. You pleaded with him to stop as he undid his breeches. Loki rammed into your dry core and you shrieked in pain.

He glared at you with each brutal stroke and you turned your head to look away. Your inner walls burned as he sped up his pace, his thrusts were violent and hateful.

“You’re hurting me.” You eked out, just wanting him to stop.

“That is the point, pet.” He snarled into your ear as he continued to pound into you, “And come to think of it, I haven’t fucked you since you stabbed me at the feast. For that alone you deserve to be fucked like the foul worthless mare you are.”

You closed your eyes and tried to pretend that you were anywhere else. Loki went on for what seemed like ages until his strokes became erratic and sloppy. He finally finished and spilled his hot seed into your already burning core. You whimpered at the sting and winced when he pulled out of you. The rug next to your face was damp from your tears. Loki stood up and fixed his breeches as you continued to lay on the floor.

“You will be confined to these quarters until the wedding.” He declared as he stood over you menacingly, “Not even Ingrid or your mother are to see you until it is time to prepare you on that day. You will see no one but me and the guard that brings you your food.”

“Loki, please. At least let me see my mother.” You begged him, “Do not keep me from her.”

He bent down to grab your jaw tightly, “Your mother will survive, darling. As will you. Perhaps this will give her encouragement to keep you in line.”

~~~
The days before your wedding slogged by and Loki had kept his promise to keep you in isolation. He enjoyed tormenting and violating you so cruelly that you worried he’d accidentally harm the baby.
The morning of your wedding came and you were finally allowed to see your mother as dictated by tradition. The married women of your family were to tend to you, but Frigga was noticeably absent, wanting nothing to do with you after your altercation.
“Mother!” You exclaimed relieved as you ran to embrace her, “I missed you.”
She held you and then pulled away to grab your face. You could see her anger and dismay when she saw the cuts and bruises Loki had left.
“Are you okay, Y/N?” She asked her voice now shaky, “That monster did this to you? Didn’t he?!”
You looked down ashamed and wiped a tear that had managed to fall down your cheek.
“I shall kill him for this.” She seethed as she pulled you into her again and rubbed your back to try and soothe you, “I will not stand for you to be treated in such a way. Prince or not.”
“You cannot say things like that, mother.” You looked up at her, “This family’s cruelty knows no bounds and I’m afraid of what they may do to you should someone overhear.”
She let out a sharp exhale before stroking your bruised cheek gently, “Has he always treated you this way? This entire time?” Her eyes were filled with concern and disappointment.
“Yes,” You admitted reluctantly, “I didn’t tell you because -” Your voice started to break and you could barely hold it together, “I didn’t want to worry you and father.”
Her eyes became glassy with tears, “Now I understand why you reacted to the news of Ulli and Thor the way you did. That idiot girl has no idea how much she has wronged you in her actions. She has practically moved into Thor’s quarters from her foolishness.”
The revelation that Ulli had basically moved into the palace on her own accord cut you like a knife. But at least your feelings towards your cousin were validated and understood by your mother.
“We will figure out a way to remedy this situation, daughter,” She said as she stroked your hair, “But now we must prepare you for this farce of a wedding and hope that I do not kill your betrothed before the ceremony has even begun.”
~~~

You stood on the large platform across from Loki in front of Asgard’s main temple. The building was made of gold and shone brightly as the sun reflected off of it. Your dress was made of deep green velvet and had a gold v neck embroidered collar, as did the hem of your dress and the bottom of your long sleeves. Your hair was braided with strands of gold ribbon laced through it.

Nobles from across Asgard and representatives from allied realms attended the wedding, one of whom was Thor’s close friend Steven of Midgard. He was a curious man wearing what you were later told was called a “tuxedo”, a type of formal wear from his realm. His plain dress stuck out like a sore thumb amongst the luxurious finery of the other guests.

The tension between you and Loki was palpable. Frigga had used her magic to create an illusion hiding the evidence of Loki’s abuse before you were seen in public. She stood off to the side from her son glowering at you while your mother stared at Loki with murderous eyes. You held your head high as Arne, one of the high priests, began the ceremony. Even though Loki had said you were not an equal in the royal family, you were hell bent on making the opposite impression to the public.

When the time came to exchange family swords your mother stepped forward with one of your family’s most precious possessions. She unwrapped it from the cloth she was holding it in and held it up as she passed it to you. The crowd gasped as the light reflected off of its shiny metal and Loki and Frigga looked at you stunned.

It was a valkyrie’s sword, that of your grandmother who had fought alongside Odin’s father King Bor Burison, including the war against the Dark Elves. The royal family, having not expected you to be in possession of such a fine weapon, had only provided Loki with the sword of a basic nobleman. You smirked to yourself knowing that you had at least bested the royal family by giving them the better weapon.

You gave Loki a sweet and innocent smile as his eyes narrowed at you while Arne continued the ceremony. He tied your hands together with string and when he had finished the marriage rites, your mother placed the bridal crown she had worn for her own wedding on your head. It was adorned with large white flowers and crystals, a style typical of Nornheim. Loki pulled you in for an embarrassingly ravenous kiss the second Arne declared you man and wife.

The crowd cheered as you turned to them and raised your entwined hands in the air. Loki gave you a kiss on the cheek as you walked through the revelers. He helped you onto his decorated steed and held onto his waist as he rode back to the palace. The crowd followed you and then crowded into the great hall for the massive reception feast.

It was done. Loki foiled any chance of you escaping and made sure that he had rights to your child. Perhaps the only saving grace was that he was over a millennium and a half older than you. Though you couldn’t bear the thought of waiting around centuries for him to die. You secretly hoped Karnilla would kill him when she attempted to take your baby. Maybe then you would finally be free of him.

~~~
The feast was larger than any you had attended before. Meade and wine flowed like rivers in celebration of your marriage. The amount of food on each table was staggering and you couldn’t count how many boars and pheasants had been served for the occasion.
You sat at a large table near the center of the room with Loki at your side. Your mother was seated next to you, while Ulli and her parents were at another table. Loki’s parents sat next to him and you all put on your best efforts to pretend that you liked each other.
The guests each came up to wish you and Loki well and to congratulate you on your nuptials. Loki became instantly irritated when Steven of Midgard appeared in front of you. The man seemed slightly uncomfortable to be there and Loki scowled at him.
“I appreciate you not wearing that ghastly outfit you call a uniform to my wedding.” Loki taunted him, “Though perhaps my brother should have given you clothing that is more suited for a royal affair.”
“Loki!” You chided as you elbowed him in the ribs, “Steven of Midgard, I appreciate you coming all of this way to attend the wedding. How are you finding your stay in Asgard? I hear it is quite different from your realm.”
“A bloody backwater.” Loki snorted disdainfully.
Steven sighed and rolled his eyes, “It’s a pleasure meeting you, Y/N - I mean, Princess Y/N. And yes, this place is..quite something. Glad I could be a representative for, um, Midgardas you call it.”
“Well, be sure to thank my brother for the invite to mywedding.” Loki butted in leaning back in his chair with crossed arms. He then pretended to check his nails and ignore Steven.
You looked at Loki mischievously, “Is Midgard not the backwater realm you failed to capture and rule – even with the help of an entire Chitauri army, husband?”
That got Loki’s attention and he glared at you, “I didn’t give it my best effort, pet. I quickly realized it was not worth the trouble when I arrived, but alas, I was already there.”
Steven smirked at Loki’s response and you winked at him, “Steven of Midgard, are you not one the guardians of your realm who helped defeat Loki with the help of Thor? I was told Loki was in quite a battered state when he arrived to be - “
“That is enough!” Loki slammed his hand down on the table, “I will not have such slanderous tales be told about me at mywedding reception, wife.”
“STEVE!” Thor yelled merrily as he pulled his friend in for a giant bear hug. Thor wrapped one of his giant arms around Steve and shook him playfully, “Ah, Steven of Midgard! He is one of my best friends!” Thor beamed and looked down at the chuckling smaller blonde man.
Your gaze quickly turned to the young noblewoman who wrapped her arm around Thor’s once he had released Steven. She looked almost exactly like your cousin Ulli and was dressed in Thor’s colors. Your cheek twitched and Thor smirked at you before introducing her.
“Ah, yes,” Thor began smugly, “I have not introduced you to my guest, Lady Sigrid, daughter of Earl Olaf.”
“Pleasure to meet you, Princess Y/N, and nice to see you again, Prince Loki.” She greeted you and curtsied gracefully, “Congratulations to you both.”
You looked around and saw Ulli sitting at the table with her parents with puffy eyes from crying. You felt a mixture of schadenfreude, concern for Ulli, and anger at Thor. Yes, she was a twat and a traitor, but she was still your little cousin.
“If you will pardon me, there are other ladies I wish to say hello to before the feast becomes too raucous.” Lady Sigrid curtsied again before leaving.
You stood up and leaned towards Thor to get closer to him, “What in the fuck do you think you are doing, Thor?” You hissed at him, “How dare you play with my cousin’s heart in such a manner. I knew your claimed affections for her were nothing but lies!”
Steven looked between you and Thor confused as to what was happening. You were too busy glaring at the latter to see Loki preemptively move your dinner knife away from you.
“Y/N,” Thor said condescendingly, “This is a royal affair and as such, I needed to bring a…more suitable guest to the event. I couldn’t possibly be seen with some peasant -”
“You fucking cunt!” You growled at him as you reached for your dinner knife. You looked down when you noticed it wasn’t there. Loki held it up and waved it at you.
“Looking for this?” He mockingly chided you, “Now pet, no violence at the dinner reception. It is uncouth. I mean how many times are you really going to try and stab my brother?”
Your hands balled into fists as you seethed, “Until he stops being a bildersnipe ass or until I succeed like I did with you!”
Steven looked at you and Loki bewildered and shook his head, “Well, this seems like a family thing. I’m going to go take my seat now. Congrats again to the happy couple.”
“What a shit show.” You heard him mutter to himself as he walked away.
“I shall take my leave as well, brother and now sister-in-law.” Thor grinned at the two of you, “I can’t leave Lady Sigrid to herself too long. It would be quite rude of me.” He walked off leaving you fuming and alone with Loki.
“Bloody Steve!” Loki huffed like a child, “What an annoying do-gooder.”
“Hmm..” You mused maliciously as you sat back down, “He really is quite handsome though. I mean, that square jaw, the piercing blue eyes, that scrumptious ass of his. Tell me, husband, do all men on Midgard look as he does? Because if so, I will need to make a trip there myself.”
“On our wedding day?!” Loki exclaimed incredulously, turning to you, “Really, darling? Truly!”
You cackled to yourself at Loki’s annoyance. You would have stabbed him again if you could, but annoying him throughout dinner was the most you would be able to do. Lightning wouldn’t strike twice when it came to stabbing your now husband at a feast.
“Silence! Silence, everyone!” Odin bellowed to get everyone’s attention. The room suddenly quieted and the attendees took their seats.
“It is now time for the realms to present their gifts to the happy couple.” He smiled over at you and Loki, “The representatives of Alfheim have not only provided the wine for this joyous occasion, but have also brought entertainment!”
The crowd clapped as the Light Elves’ representative stepped forward to the middle of the room.
“Ladies and gentleman, and of course the lovely couple,” The Light Elf announced cheerily, “I bring to you some of the best performers of Alfheim’s famed carnival for your viewing pleasure!” He bowed before moving out of the way as the lights suddenly dimmed.
The drum music started and fire dancers quickly came to the middle of the room. Your eyes went wide and your mouth was agape as you watched them twirl and dance with the flames as if they were immune to being burned. Some did flips and somersaults, while others blew bursts of fire. You applauded until your hands hurt when they finished.
The second set of performers were contortionists. You were amazed at how flexible they were, able to conform their bodies to the most unnatural shapes. You cheered and whistled loudly when they climbed on top of each other to make even more complicated figures.
Next was a troupe that did a balancing act. Two elves held up a thin bar on their shoulders while two others walked across it and did tricks. Near the end they had little stools they would hold up and other members of the troupe would balance upside down and jump from one to another.
The performance ended with a bildersnipe handler. The crowd gasped as the beast performed tricks and jumped through hoops. Thor even ran up in the middle of the act to pet the creature and play with it, having to be shooed off the stage by Odin. The crowd whooped and hollered when all of the performers returned to the stage and bowed.
The lights turned back up and Odin was standing again to continue the gift presentation.
“Well, that was quite the performance, was it not?” He chuckled merrily, “One can always count on our neighbors from Alfheim to put on a good show!”
There was another round of thunderous applause before Odin continued, “Next we have the representatives of Vanaheim, please, come forward.”
The two Vanir representatives stepped towards your table and bowed, one of them holding a small wooden box in his hands.
“Vanaheim is not only the realm of forests, but like your home of Nornheim, Princess Y/N, it is also a land of magic.”
“That is quite true.” You nodded at him with a smile as Loki motioned them impatiently to continue.
One of them opened the box and pulled out a necklace with three small polished purple stones with runes engraved on them. Loki let out a soft dismissive scoff as he leaned back in his chair. You, however, leaned forward to see what the runes were.
“Your Grace, I present you with an enchantment to amplify your powers.” He explained carefully, “We have heard of your gifts and have created this gift for you in particular. You and your children are the only ones who can harness the enchantment -”
“And what of my gift?” Loki interrupted him rudely, “These are supposed to be gifts for a couple, are they not?”
“Loki!” Both you and Odin turned and hissed at him.
The Vanir let out an annoyed sigh and rolled his eyes before continuing, “Your gift, Your Grace, is the privilege of being adjacent to such a powerful legacy.” He concluded flatly before bowing.
“Thank you for your gracious gift, my lord.” You replied politely before he dismissed himself to sit down.
Odin then beckoned the dwarves of Nidavellir to the center to present their gift. Two of them carried a long thin box while another walked ahead of them. They all bowed before one of them began to speak.
“Your Graces,” He greeted you and Loki, “Nidavellir has created the most powerful weapons that have been wielded by the royal family of Asgard. Tonight’s gift is no different.” Two of the men opened the box and the third picked up a sword that was still in its sheath.
He held the sword out for you to observe, “It is named Blood Reaper. It is unbreakable and can call on the powers of your ancestors. It can only be unsheathed by the most deserving of your family.”
“Blood Reaper?” Loki asked amused, “Well, I do quite like that name. I see this gift is clearly for me. Thank you, kind sir. You may leave this upon the table before taking your leave.” He waved them away hastily, much to your dismay.
The three men bowed and did as Loki instructed. Odin then waved for Steven to present his gift. He walked to the center of the room holding what appeared to be a large wooden stick. He cleared his throat before speaking.
“Hi, everyone. Good evening.” He said slightly anxious, “My name is Steve Rogers, though some of you may know me as Steven of Midgard.” He chuckled nervously.
You gave him an approving smile and motioned for him to continue. Loki however let out a sharp exhale and glowered at Steven.
Steven held up the stick, “This is what is called a baseball bat. Baseball is a sport that is quite popular where I’m from on Earth - I mean Midgard. This bat has been signed by one of the greatest athletes of all time, Babe Ruth of the Yankees.”
You heard murmuring amongst the crowd and saw confused stares at Steve. He pulled at his collar nervously before he continued speaking.
“This bat is, um, well, it is quite valuable on Midgard - “
“WHY DID YOU NOT BRING PEANUT BUTTER, STEVE?!” Thor bellowed from the crowd, “IT IS THE MOST DELICIOUS THING ON MIDGARD!”
“What is a peanut?!” You asked Loki in a whisper, “Is it some type of cow?”
“No, pet, I believe it is a type of nut.” He whispered back as he looked smugly at Steve.
“Butter? From a nut?” You looked at him confused, “Midgard truly is quite a strange place after all.”
You stood up and held out your hands to take the bat from Steven and smiled warmly at him.
“Thank you, Steven of Midgard, for your truly gracious gift.” You nodded, “I shall cherish this, um, bat from Babe, son of Ruth of house Yankee.”
Steven gave you an awkward bow before taking his seat. The final group to present their gifts were the high priests. Arne stepped forward holding a cage with two squawking ravens.
“Knowledge is the cornerstone of power.” Arne began, “As a royal couple it is important that you have all knowledge that is possibly available to you.”
He then held up the cage, “These ravens are to be your eyes and ears, Your Graces. They can circle the world in the morning and be able to tell you all they have seen by the time you take your breakfast.”
Loki raised an eyebrow at the gift as you looked at the birds in amazement. Arne bowed before placing the cage on the table. The ravens quieted down as soon as they were in front of you, and you and Loki thanked Arne and the other priests.
Odin stood to conclude the gift presentation, but was quickly pulled aside by two guards who rushed in. Odin looked towards the door and then to you and Loki. You saw him whisper something to the guards who then rushed back out of the door. You felt a sinking feeling in your gut and the hairs on your body stood up as if something were wrong.
Moments later a porter wearing the colors of Nornheim entered the room holding a gold box. He was escorted to the table by two guards. The ravens started squawking uncontrollably, visibly agitated by the porter’s presence. Loki sat up in his seat and glared at him.
He looked nervous and was sweating profusely, “Your Graces, I have come with a wedding gift from Queen Karnilla herself.” He stood anxiously as he waited for instruction.
“Come, you may bring us the gift.” Loki beckoned him to the table cautiously.
The porter put down the box and you opened the letter with Karnilla’s seal.
“You’ve made your choice.” Was all that was written in the letter.
You reached for the box with shaky hands, the ravens now going absolutely mad as you began to open it. You let out a blood curdling scream and backed away from the table, nearly falling over your chair. Your father’s head lay in the box, his eyes still open and staring at you.
“ARREST THIS MAN!!!” Loki instructed the guards furiously.
You heard your mother wail when she saw the contents of the box and you rushed up to grab her and pull her away, “Do not look, mother! Do not look!”
She fainted from shock and you caught her before she hit her head. Your aunt and uncle raced to help sit her up and tried to revive her. Ulli rushed to your side and held you while you sobbed uncontrollably.
You couldn’t hear the loud clamoring around the room or Odin, Thor, and Loki yelling about declarations of war. You hadn’t noticed that Frigga joined Ulli in trying to comfort you, the only genuine act of kindness she had ever shown you. The only thing that existed in that moment was your grief over your father’s murder.
You spent a little more than your monthly budget on Starbucks so now you’re siphoning as much as you can off the company’s courtesy.
