Some more cover concepts I did for @dalilacaryn’s upcoming fantasy novel The Battle for the Sky. Final cover reveal coming this Friday!! ✨

It was such a joy to work with Dalila again on this project. I got to read the book before starting on the cover, and absolutely feel in love with the story and amazing characters. The story is so emotional and powerful with a hint of romance that I love.

We both really liked these cover concepts, but felt they didn’t tell enough of a story, and the four on the left felt a little too much sci-fi the final cover we went with is much more personal. You will see soon!

Concepts I did for the cover design of @dalilacaryn’s upcoming fantasy novel The Battle for the Sky! ✨

Sometimes you start out with an idea, you think you know what you want, but end up going with the exact opposite of that.

This is what happened in the process of creating the book cover for The Battle for the Sky. Before starting on the concept designs Dalila and I had a meeting talking about our various ideas and thoughts for the cover. We definitely wanted the desert, with an interesting storytelling detail like a cheetah, slipper or solar eclipse, as you can see in these designs. We decided that neither of us really wanted a character on the cover, we felt that didn’t fit the book and feeling we wanted to convey.
For some reason though, the first thumbnail sketch I did was of, you guessed it, a character, more specifically the main character of the novel, Hadhi. I don’t know why my brain decided it was a good idea to go completely of track but it worked! And even though we both loved the cover concepts I did after that, the ones you see here, we ended up going with the exact thing we thought we didn’t want for this cover.

Keep an eye out for the cover reveal of this ABSOLUTELY AMAZING new novel by @dalilacaryn. Seriously. So good. Yes I know I might be biased but I’m serious it’s amazing.
