We love letters, and our special collections has thousands of them in various archival collections. We particularly love letters from poets, because they really know how to use their words well, as this letter from poet Thomas Lynch to Portland poet Carlos Reyes shows: “I was up that way to buy a donkey – a mate ass to provide comfort and consort to my piebald jack. I call Charles and Camilla after the lovers on the neighboring island.”
