Hopeless Romantic’s Prompt Week(Day Two)|Favorite Love Song
Mine - Taylor Swift
On this day in 2008, the TARDIS decided the Tenth Doctor needed to meet his daughter…
Sylvester McCoy, who played the Seventh Doctor, has shared a message with Ncuti Gatwa ahead of his upcoming era as the Fourteenth Doctor.
“Welcome, Ncuti Gatwa! Welcome to our unique club,” McCoy says. “The Doctor Who club!”
“You are very welcome, and it will be a delight to watch you take on the Daleks, the Cybermen, the Weeping Angels and… the critics. We all had to do that when we took over!
"Anyway, I wish you well. I wish you everything you wish for yourself and the TARDIS, I hope you have great adventures. I know you will, I had. All the best mate, all the best. I look forward to meeting you someday.
"Another Scot,” he added. “Wehay!”
Matt Smith, who played the Eleventh Doctor, has shared his reaction to the news that Ncuti Gatwa has been cast as the Fourteenth Doctor.
“I think he’s going to be truly brilliant,” Smith says. “I think it’s an inspired piece of casting, and along with Russell, who’s such a great leader of that show.
"I don’t know if you’ve seen him in Sex Education, there’s a warmth and wit and a real depth to his talent that I think… honestly, I think it’s an inspired bit of casting and I’m really, really excited for the show!”
Welcome to the Whoniverse, Ncuti Gatwa! ✨️
Ncuti Gatwa and Russell T Davies speak to BBC News about today’s Fourteenth Doctor announcement.
“There aren’t quite the words to describe how I’m feeling. A mix of deeply honoured, beyond excited and of course a little bit scared. This role and show means so much to so many around the world, including myself, and each one of my incredibly talented predecessors has handled that unique responsibility and privilege with the utmost care. I will endeavour my upmost to do the same. Russell T Davies is almost as iconic as the Doctor himself and being able to work with him is a dream come true. His writing is dynamic, exciting, incredibly intelligent and fizzing with danger. An actor’s metaphorical playground. The entire team have been so welcoming and truly give their hearts to the show. And so as much as it’s daunting, I’m aware I’m joining a really supportive family. Unlike the Doctor, I may only have one heart but I am giving it all to this show.” - Ncuti Gatwa
“The future is here and it’s Ncuti! Sometimes talent walks through the door and it’s so bright and bold and brilliant, I just stand back in awe and thank my lucky stars. Ncuti dazzled us, seized hold of the Doctor and owned those TARDIS keys in seconds. It’s an honour to work with him, and a hoot, I can’t wait to get started. I’m sure you’re dying to know more, but we’re rationing ourselves for now, with the wonderful Jodie’s epic finale yet to come. But I promise you, 2023 will be spectacular!” - Russell T Davies
Let us officially introduce the Fourteenth Doctor, it’s Ncuti Gatwa!
