these pieces are representing my inner conflict between intrigue, horror and disgust when i look at th!nspo imagery online. one one hand i am in the warped state where these pictures are appealing to me, and encourage me to continue doing horrible things to myself in order to ‘fix what is wrong’ with my body according to diet culture, and on the other hand i can see how dystopian this all is. that the social media algorithms and environments allow eating disorders to thrive. they make money from all our time we spend looking at this garbage.
the more time we use the websites, trying to make ourselves pure and perfect like the photoshopped pictures, pure because they dont eat and eating is dirty, fat is dirty and makes you unclean. free of the sin of food, the sin of fat, the sin of normal human behaviour that we do for survival, the sin of not sucking in your stomach when at the beach or alone in your room. the sin of having skin that bunches up when you sit down, just as it evolved to do, so that you can move your body.
the more time our eating disorders, body insecurities and thin worship are being processes into profits.
