Hermitgang reacts are the funniest because people go into it thinking “this feels like a cringe Minecraft parody but it’s from the esteemed, distinguished Hermitcraft SMP, I wonder how that goes” and most people probably know / heard of someone from the cast. And so they go into thinking they’ll laugh but they end up unironically bopping to it? In mild horror and confusion and a strange sort of enjoyment?? And by the time Xisuma’s part comes, it just becomes oddly hysterical. Say what you like about Hermitgang but you can tell it was made with sincere passion and heart. These hermits really put their soul into their disstrack. The production slaps, the lyrics are actually thoughtful and flow pretty damn well.
Also Hermitgang makes absolutely no sense without context (or even with). Why did Grian touch Doc’s bush. Why is Rendog a fireman. “What’s the letter that starts the alphabet? A!” Rendog What??? Why did Tango betray Impulse. “Double O” what?? Cleo don’t know who she’s freaking with??? “Lyrical boxing” hmm??? UNCLEAN NEEDING SOME SUNSCREEN?
One “Hermitgang react” moment I don’t see a lot of people talk about is H initially discovering it during the ye old days of MCC9 practice. When he brought it up to the hermits, their reactions were simultaneously “oh no” (False) and “oh yes” (Ren). Ren belts out his verse and False is ♀️with mild second hand embarrassment but also respect for Ren just randomly rapping. And H and Fruit are like, surprised that they’re genuinely impressed by Minecraft Gucci Gang.
You might think a Minecraft rap would be easy to clown on but once you see the effort everybody put in, you’re just amazed. Stunned into silence. That hermit can really gang after all. There’s a reason why “Listen Grian” is so iconic. It’s impossible to hate something that’s so carefully and lovingly crafted, as ridiculous as it may sound.
