I get that the nuances of regional slang can be difficult when you’re writing about a place you’ve never been, but ELJames is just not even trying to pretend this is the US.

Oh, and did you notice? This is from the prologue:

That’s right, friends. Not only are we switching POV between our two main characters, ELJames has also made the truly BIZARRE decision to switch between 1st and 3rd person as well.
ELJames decided to set this novel in England so I could no longer harp on her constant fake-American English, but she appeases me right away by pointing out that even in the UK her usage is “dated” so I don’t have to. Thanks for the assist, EL.

It’s weird how instead of editing her book’s timeline to make it less ridiculous, ELJames just has some minor characters call it out. Less work for her, I guess
