otw-fanlore:

It’s been a year since Tumblr’s all-out ban on NSFW content went into effect, giving rise to waves of memes, vidsandart; fans migrating to other platforms; and of course, content flags. So many content flags.

FromFemale-Presenting NipplestoA Network Of Our Own, reblog this post with your thoughts on Tumblr fandom before and after the purge, and edit our Fanlore page to add links to your favourite commentary, parodies and fanworks.

Deeply disappointed and yet not at all surprised in the SLIGHTEST to see a new wave of “B-b-b-but THE CHILDREN! The CHILDREN might SEE ICKY FANWORKS!”

Look, if a kid is old enough to like this series, they are old enough to understand the concept that some things are inappropriate for them. If they’re old enough to be on tumblr or ao3, they’re DEFINITELY old enough to read tags and warnings.

Adults making adult fanwork for other adults are not in any way shape or form responsible for babysitting and mommying hypothetical child fans of an adaptation that hasn’t even come out yet.

we have been through this a million times and we keep saying over and over that associating transgressive fiction with real-life abuse is a homophobic, right-wing tactic that is currently as we speak being used to destroy our rights in the US and you people are so fucking young you never saw strikethrough or boldthrough and don’t know about the warriors for innocence and that is WONDERFUL that you never went through that but I don’t think you realize what you’re advocating and defending or who you’re siding with.

At least, I really, really hope you don’t, because siding with conservative bigots in the name of censorship is a lotgrosser than adults writing adult things for adults.
