After a bunch of stuff, the prototype v0.1 is finally here. I hope you enjoy it!!!

The main purpose of the prototype v0.1 is to test the main concept, collect feedback, then overhaul the design. Please share all your feedback in the comments!!!! I’ll take everybody’s feedback, make any redesigns that need to be made, and then implement them in the next version.

Things I’m thinking about:
1) The mechanics for enemies attacking the adventurers. Currently, there is no lose state, enemies can only slow down the player. Is this fun? I hope so! Please let me know!

2) While I like the enemy’s defense mechanic (reduce any defense to 0) a lot, I wonder if it can be visualized better? Currently its just a series of icons with numbers on them. Would it be better if they were represented with bars, or something else?

Hey ya’ll I’ve been wanting to start a longer project for a while now. I briefly considered a comic, but I wanna develop a video game! So for the past month I’ve been writing different game proposals, and I’d like to get your guy’s feedback on them. Of course, they’re all stuffing and weight gain themed. Sometime soon I’ll pick one, depending on what people like, what I think is do-able, etc. I’m not gonna just pick the most popular one, tho! The vote will be one of many things I will consider. Then I’ll start putting together a playable proof-of-concept.

You’ll notice they’re all relatively simple. I want to develop these games mostly on my own, though I may commission art for them. I think its better to create something simple and polished, than to bite off more than I could chew. That said, these proposals cover only the core idea and mechanics, and there’s room for adding new features depending on how development goes, likes story lines, events, world map, new items, etc. I want to make something playable in-browser, so no download required! Also all the art in these proposals is super placeholder, and all the characters designs are rough first drafts.

This here is a puzzle game with simple shop-sim elements. A witch opens a bakery where she has a lot of customers that like to binge on cake!

I like this one a lot! But I’m worried the mechanics are too weird. Its a simplified dungeon crawler RPG where a group of adventures eat their way through a dungeon made entirely of food.

GAME PROPOSAL 3 - Monstergirls are Hungry!

I’m kinda shaky on this one, but I like the central concept at least. You’re the mayor of a fantasy village that has to keep marauding monstergirls at bay by keeping them well fed. It’s a city-sim and tower defense, except the towers are big piles of food.

I’ll be starting a Patreon page to help fund the game/my art in general. I’d want to update the game every one or two months. In order to do that I’d have to spend at like 15-20 hours a week on it, which is a pretty substantial time investment! I’d only be able to accomplish that if I had funding via Patreon. But I wouldn’t be comfortable asking for money unless there was already something playable, so I’ll hold off on it until the playable proof-of-concept is ready.

I hope you like the game ideas! I’m super excited for this project!

MONSTERGIRLS ARE HUNGRY
MGAH is a top-down hybird city-sim/tower defense, where the goal is to protect your village form ravenous monsters by producing food fast enought to overfeed them before they get to your village and start eating your villagers.

MGAH is endless, the only goal is to defend your mansion as long as you can. You do thsi by creating building that regularly produce food, and placing this food in teh mosnter’s path so that their hunger is sated before they start attacking your town.

BUILDINGS
Buildings create many things, including food, gold, and wood. Buildings cost wood and/or gold to create. They level up and produce resources faster when adjactent to certain buliding types or terrain features

If monsters haven’t been distracted by food, they will attack buildings, destroying them and eating the people inside. Damaged buildings are repaired over time automatically if they haven’t been attacked in a while.

Here’s a few building ideas. We can add more over development:

You can only build within 3 spaces of a an already built building, so you can’t just build anywhere

FOOD
Instead of towers to protect you, you place food that your village has produced to distract the monsters

You can toggle the bottom panel to shwo you what food you have available. Placing food is similar to placing buildings, except its free (you’ve already made it) and you can put 4 in a single space. If a monster passes near the food, they will eat it.

Food can have different effects:
Veggies: Weak, but cheap
Fruit: normal
Bread: fattening
Sweets: very fattening
Spicy: Inflicts damage
Meat: filling
Milk: inflicts sleep status
Alchohol: inflicts confuse status

MONSTER GIRLS
Periodically, a LAIR will spawn outside your village. This will quickly produce a # of monsters, then slowly keep summoning more.

The monsters move around, devouring everything in sight, until their hunger is reduced to 0. At which point, they return to their lair and wait until hungry again. Monster girls can have lots of different stats and abilities, but there are two important ones:

Level: this indicates relative strength. As the monstergirl gets fatter, they become slower and weaker, and lose levels
Hunger: hunger must be reduced to 0 to send the monster back to her lair.

Of course, the monster sprites change they eat and get fatter.

ADVENTURERS
Evertually you’ll have to actually kill the mosnters. You do this by building an Inn, where adventurers gather and then head out to fight monsters.

Inns are unique, because instead of food or resources, they produce adventurers on a long timer.

The adventuring party is unique, as it is your only unit. As soon as its created, it rushes towards the first monster it sees, heedless of its own survival. It will continue to fight monsters until it dies.

A lair is destroyed as soon as every monster it its original batch is destroyed.

ONWARDS
There’s lots of different monstergirls we can add, as well as foods and buildings

ANALYSIS
THis is the idea I’m least excited about. A lot of the art budget & screenspace is dedicated to buildings & terrain, and not character art, which the main draw of these kinds of projects. The real-time, endless nature of the game may have a servious perfomance impact if this were to run in-browser. There’s also a lot of numbers and timers to here to get a good gameplay experience.

EAT THE DUNGEON
A group of adventurers challenges a huge dungeon where every monster, trap, and obstacle is made of food.

GAMEPLAY
Eat the Dungeon is a simplified dungeon crawler. Each floor has a number of “rooms” which are a (randomly selected?) group of enemies, obstacles, and traps. Once everything in the room is eaten, the party moves on to the next room. To perform an action, drag a character to another unit on the screen. If its an enemy, they will use their attacks to damage and eat the enemy. If it’s an ally, they will use any support abilities they have on them.

CHARACTER STATS
A) Action timer: Can act if less than 0. Resets every time an action is performed. Some characters have faster or slower timers.
B) Attacks/Abilities: Attacks are used to reduce enemy defenses and eat them. Abilities help allies.
C) Favorite Food: Attacks do x2 damage if the target matches the character’s favorite food.
D) Fullness: Dealing damage gives you an equal number of fullness. Attacking while over fullness limit can increase your limit, but it also has a random chance to KO you until your stomach empties. Fullness drains at a rate of some % of fullness limit per second, which adds to your weight.
E) Weight: Fighting in the dungeon will have an impact on your waistline. As weight increases, the attack timer’s maximum value will too.

Different versions of character art to reflect fullness and current weight.

ATTACKS
Attacks don’t have any special properties, just find the one that matches your target’s defenses.

Weapon: To harm enemies vulnerable to physical damage.
Armor: To tire out and outlast brutish enemies
Magic: To hurt enemies susceptable to sorcery
Faith: To dispel magical creatures, enchantments, and the undead.
Sneak: To disable traps and assasinate otherwise invulnerable creatures

ABILITIES
Used on allies, these have benficial effects

Heal: restores attacks that have been reduced by enemey attacks
Buff: boost all attack that ally has

ENEMY STATS
A) Attack Timer: when it reaches 0, the enemy uses the next attack in its attack list.
B) Attack list: this describes the type, targeting, and strength of the enemies attacks.
   The icon tells you everything you need to know:
    Strength: Red reduces this stat by this much. Green increases it.
    Targeting: Red targets enemies. Green targets allies. Pointer up targets highest w/ this stat. Pointing down targets lowest.
   Duration: This is how long the stat is affected. If there’s no black number, its permenant!
C) Defenses: Attacking an enemy lowers the strength of any defense by the strenght of the matching attacks. Reducing ANY defense to 0 defeats the creature. Attacking when you have no matching attacks will deal a small amount of damage to their single highest defense.

GRETEL & RETURNING TO TOWN
Between every floor you can return to town and get upgrades from your brilliant assistant, Gretel. She has many wonderful magical inventions that will be invaluable in your crusade against the Dungeon.

Extraction: Adventures become slower the fatter they get. Most parties could not get a dozen floors in before eating themselvs to immobility. Fortunately, Gretel has perfected a (mostly painless) method of rapid weight loss. What’s more the collected fat can be sued to power her other magics. Fat is literally just stored energy!

Mobility Enchantment: Enemies in the dungeon are only going to get bigger and more fattening. The mobility enchantment reduces the attack speed penalty of being fat. It can be upgraded many times.

Level Up: Gretel is also responsible for leveling up your heroes, which makes their attack/ability values increase.

Receiving anything from Gretel takes time, so any character selected cannot participate in the next level of the dungeon. The cost of mobility & level up scales with the total number of upgrades of both types received.

FLOOR SELECT
Here you pick a floor and assemble your party. The panel underneath your selected party displays defenses and foot types common on that floor of the dungeon.

ONWARDS
We can add lots of new advetnurers and monsters to the game w/ the mechanics currenctly described. I also want to explore expanding the food type system. Maybe eating too much of one type can give a penalty? Or maybe there are monsters who can change these briefly?

ANALYSIS
Personally I am very excited by this idea. Screenspace is almost completely dedicated to character art, and the mechanics allow for some relatively complex interactions. I am worried that the mechanics are too weird and abstract for players to understand easily. And there’s a lot of tricky number balance here, especialy w/ character progression.

Little Magic Bake Shop

PLOT
A sweet witch is banished from the Witch World after eating a priceless rare magic ingredient. So she journeys to the Human World, where she decides to open a bakery.

GAMEPLAY
Customers come in and give their order. The witch cooks using magic, which for some reason works exactly like a match 3 game. Select all the adjacent ingredients for the customer’s order. If you create teh correct item, you get your money and the customer leaves satisfied.

The witch can reshuffle the board by making a selection that doesn’t make anything. This will shuffle all the ingredients in the selection. The customer has an evergy bar, and will leave when it is empty. The bar depletes over time, and depletes faster if an unwanted item is baked.

The witch has limited ingredients. The board is refilled with these, but don’t run out! You can buy new ingredients in-between game days.

REGULARS
Periodically, a regular customer will appear. When you satisfy the order of a regular customer, they will not leave. Instead, they enter BINGE MODE.

In BINGE MODE, the customer no longer orders items. Instead, they’ll eat anything the witch bakes for them until their energy bar runs out. Eating something refills the energy meter.

In addition to normal recipes, you can also add special ingredients to create different varieties of normal items. Regulars have favorite ingredients, these will fill up the energy meter more. But repeating any item will have diminishing returns.

In BINGE MODE, the customer has an additional meter: the Belly Meter. Eating increases the Belly Meter, which goes up a level every time it is filled. But the energy meter falls faster as higher belly levels.

Increasing the number of ingredients per item will create larger items. These items fill the belly meter even faster. But you have to keep the ingredients balanced, or else the selection is invalid!

Customers gain weight if you reach the maximum Belly Level in BINGE MODE.

We can throw in some light VN/Date Sim plot that advances as the characters get bigger.

ONWARDS
There’s all kinds of customers, regulars, and foodstuffs we can add. Maybe develop some kind of storyline?

ANALYSIS
I’m very confident in my ability to execute this idea. Only thing to balance here is cashflow. I am concerned if match-3 gameplay where none of the selection actually matches is interesting, or if it would be weird and unpleasant. I like the actiony nature of BINGE MODE. Writing a continuing storyline is kind of intimidating.

Commissions are open again! I look forward to working with you all!

Here’s a little more detail about how it works:

Contact me at [email protected] with your commission description. It can be as vague or as detailed as you want regarding pose, expression, compositions, etc, but for physical appearance or clothes I will need either an image reference or detailed description. If I accept your commission, I will send you an invoice via Paypal for the first half. As far as I understand it, a paypal account is not required to pay the invoice, but if you don’t have an account, you have to use a debit or credit card.

After the initial payment, I begin work. If there’s a lot of characters or other things going on, I will send you some simple thumbnails to work out the composition. If it’s pretty simple, we just skip to the sketch step. Then I send you smallish (usually 800x600 or something like that) versions of the sketch, ink, and color as I complete them. At every step, you ask for any changes or alterations you want. Nearly all changes are free, so don’t worry about it. If a change is big enough to warrant a price change, I will let you know beforehand so you can decide if its worth it.

Once the last step is approved, I will send the invoice for the second half. When that is paid, I will send the full size image. Also, please let me know if your commission is ok to be posted publicly on my accounts, as well as if and how you wish to be credited when I post it.
