The title had begun from a single idea I had, an idea that involved how one character viewed the other. It was meant to be a simple, nuanced one-shot, but the pair kept growing as their conversations unfolded and so it evolved into this mini-series. I actually had a very hard time trying to complete this but when I finally saw where it was heading, I was so glad I’d persevered with it. I did not expect it to end the way it had, but once the final scene had made its home in my mind, I could not deviate from it. I hope this story isn’t too chaotic and that you can feel the complex and yet surprisingly clear feelings between the two. x

I. It was a foolproof plan. Then again, when had Jim Moriarty ever had a plan that was notfoolproof?The world is a circus of fools, was how he often defined the environment he lived in. In this case, he had decided it was best he undertook this particular operation himself.
He had planned it down to the most random of details so as not to be caught off guard; from the title of Molly’s favourite musical to the brand of cat food she would buy for her cat, Toby. Jim learnt how the different ways she did her hair could offer him some insight into her mood. The shocking amount of colour she seemed to enjoy formed a stark contrast to his own very stark palette, but he had learnt to appreciate it. Jim had left no stone unturned.

Jim lounges against the plush chair, tapping his knee while his quick, clever eyes dart around the tea room, taking in the slick 1920s ambiance. Claridge’s for afternoon tea wouldn’t have even made his list, but Jim isn’t the one who picked the venue for this rendezvous.
It’s not a choice he would have ascribed to his companion either, before today. Jim catches her watching a couple across the room and while her attention is elsewhere, he takes a moment to inspect her with fresh eyes. With manicured nails and pale, tastefully painted lips, she’s transformed herself into just the right kind of posh to blend in here. Her hair is blonde, cut into a long bob that brushes her shoulders – a wig, obviously, but of good quality and an effective disguise.
It’s ridiculous, this whole thing. Molly Hooper, mousy Barts pathologist, can barely afford to splurge on afternoon tea, to say nothing of having the funds to pay him even a fraction of what his empire is worth. She wants to do it in installments, as if she’s buying a bloody sofa.
So now that OBI-WAN KENOBI has premiered its first two episodes, a lot of us are right back in the screaming hell pit of feelings about Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker! And some of us never left. You know what might help with that? “Daddy!” The excited cheer and the rapid scampering footsteps in Andy’s direction made him immediately tense. Nothing could prepare him for the smack of a little body into his legs or the tug of tiny hands on the hem of his suit jacket.
When he exhaled a long, slow breath and looked down, excited eyes stared up at him. His routine of grocery shopping late Thursday nights was now interrupted by a pajama-clad toddler. “Hey, pal. Where’s your mah?”
“Uppy?” The little boy’s big eyes now glimmered with tears, despite the big smile, and a familiar tug on his heart and he slipped his hands under the kid’s arms to scoop him up before he started wailing. Before Andy could ask his question again, the little boy’s small hands were on Andy’s beard giggling, “Daddy, you’re prickly!” Swallowing, he smiled a crooked smile as he noticed a familiarity in the coloring in the little boy’s irises, blue with hints of yellow-green near the pupils. Laurie used to say Jacob had sunflowers in his eyes. The thought of his ex-wife and their late son made him sniffle. This little guy in his arms quickly threw them around Andy’s neck, “Don’t cry, Daddy! I’m so happy you’re finally here.”

Loki stared at the messages, frowning. His memory was good, even if being around the mortals had started to dull his faculties; if someone had invited him out for a drinks (which, he thought thankfully, they never did) he would remember. So, a wrong number? Possible but ultimately unlikely.
No one typed in numbers any more. Messages were sent to saved contacts and it certainly sounded like this was an argument between so called friends. A slipped finger, then. Texting the wrong person. And seeing that Loki had his therapist’s number saved, that left only one other person on the entire miserable planet that had his number on their phone. You.

She drove the large Bounty against the wall, one hand on his cuffs and the other on the back of his hairless vomit green head. He was much bigger than her and Mando combined, and there was no way they could wrestle him back to the Crest awake.
“You bitch!” The Bounty was kriffing mouthy for being in cuffs. She glanced to her side impatiently, using her whole body to keep the Bounty pinned. Mando was really taking his sweet time finding the tranquilizer.
“Keep talking, and this bitch will make your life a living hell,” She grunted against the force of his body.

They must wait and pray that their brothers can get to him in time.
Not There Yet by BigFatBumblebee: This is straight-up sickfic, featuring all the best classic tropes. Looking now it seems like there might be some formatting issues in the desktop version, but I read this on mobile without difficulty. Poor Obi-Wan gets frustrated with the motherhenning of Qui-Gon and Tahl. “Meg, did you find this fic because you were searching through the Tahl tag again?” Sure did. Tahl is the best! I loved her interactions with grumpy, feverish Obi-Wan, and how she and Qui-Gon team up to make sure he takes his medicine and rests up. Very cute, worth the read! <3
The Queen, The Cavalier, and The Dragon by FireflyFish: This is so cool! I’m in love with the fairytale motif. This is a post-mustafar fix-it (sort of) with a focus on Obi and Padme parenting the twins and keeping them safe and trying to teach them their family’s history in a way that they can comprehend. I loved Obi and Padme kicking ass together, Leia was great, and Luke was so freakin’ precious omg <3
Problem Patientby JellyJog: I guess you could say that this one is less about the h/c, and more humor with the halls of healing as a backdrop, but I loved it so I wanted to include it nonetheless! Qui-Gon is such an ass and Obi-Wan is so confident and OVER his shit, it’s just peak QuiObi and I got a lot of laughs out of it. I liked Obi-Wan in the healer role, especially when it’s Qui-Gon he’s patching up. <3
Six Times Ahsoka Thought Her Grandmaster Was Dead, and the One Time He Actually Wasby LazarusII & Pandora151: Ouch! Just ouch! I loved the narrative style that really drove home the horror of this scene, I always expect great things from these authors and I am never ever disappointed!! I’m so excited to see where this goes next! I am NOT ready for it, because I assume they will get sadder and sadder as we move forward in the timeline and Ahsoka gets closer and closer to Obi-Wan. But fine, I didn’t need my heart anyways, go ahead and break it </3
Perception by LuvEwan: This is wonderfully unique! I love the tension between Qui-Gon and Dooku, and how weird it is for everyone involved to see Dooku being soft and caring with Obi-Wan - especially poor Qui-Gon doesn’t know what to make of it. I melted for how worried Qui-Gon got, even though he was trying not to motherhen too much in front of Dooku because he assumed Dooku would disapprove. What a good Jedi Dad. <3
Candles Against the Sea by maychorian: I implore you to check the tags on this one! But if you’re like me, and some of the themes warned for are a “maybe” for you, know that they’re dealt with here very tactfully and, I thought, very believable for Obi-Wan’s character. What I love most about this fic is how it deals with grief, and how it shows Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon and their different approaches to dealing with their pasts. And of course, I’m a sucker for fics that reference the Jedi Apprentice series! <3
The Sun Shall Not Smite Thee by maychorian: Ouch! This is a dark one! Just like the other fic by this author, it takes me back to my livejournal days and the Jedi Apprentice series. I loved how desperate and protective and fatherly Qui-Gon was, and it definitely scratched the itch for straight-up Obi-Wan whump. <3
The Past Remains by otherhawk: Please please please read the tags on this one before diving in! That said, I thought this was a really well-written and touching story, my favorite bit was probably Obi-Wan and Mace’s interactions, and just Obi-Wan with the Council in general because despite being one of them, it’s hard to escape the fact that most of them knew him when he was young too and the past still follows him. What I liked about this was also how messy it is - it’s not a black-and-white situation, and the different characters’ perspectives and conflicting memories are laid out to give the reader sort of an omniscient view of the story. <3
The Orchards by Raven_Knight: I died of cuteness! This is so domestic and fluffy, they’re freakin’ baking together, what more could anyone possibly want from a h/c fic? This one is for those of us who are 100% here for the comfort, not just the hurt. I really loved reading these two getting some downtime, and with all the asshole!Qui-Gon fics in this list, I’m really happy to include one that features Qui being sweet and protective and softly joking with his convalescent Padawan while they bond over apples! <3
Protect and Nurture by Ren: OUCH! This one doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to Obi-Wan and the aftermath of Zygerria. I loved seeing Cody, Rex, and Wolffe and their different reactions to the traumatic scenario. Motherhen!Cody cracks me up! For all that this story has a lot of “hurt”, there’s a lot of the “comfort” part too which is something I really appreciate. <3

Rest by acollectionofhalftruths: Look okay, I’m usually verrry wary of Luke & Vader hurt/comfort because some of the really old livejournal fics in this niche were too dark for my taste, or ended in sith!Luke which I don’t go for at all. This is not one of those fics! It’s so sweet and Vader is written both completely in-character but also so gentle and protective of his son, which is amazing, and I love how out of his element he seems, like when poor sick Luke wants to cuddle up to him and he’s kind of like…what? That’s not going to be warm or comfortable for you? But okay I guess?? And everything goes better than expected. Anyways this is short and cute and a very interesting take on these two characters, I loved it a lot!
One of These Days by Anonymous: Obi-Wan to Anakin: “Why do you always get to be the unconscious one?”. This is Anakin whump with a dry, witty humor that puts a big, stupid grin on my face. It’s fantastic in so many ways. Anakin gets Rex and Cody and Coric and especially Obi-Wan so worried about him with his crazy antics and I just love all of them so much! I also love the role swap moments when Anakin starts badgering Obi-Wan about remembering to eat, and it’s just so clear that these two hold each other together in the worst of moments like this. <3
faintly I’ll go, take this head on by ashintuku : Okay, fine this one probably pushes the boundaries of what actually counts as “hurt/comfort” but I loved it too much to leave it out!! It explores the TFA trio and their relationship with food, what they’re used to and what it symbolizes. It’s short, but it’s a character piece and I thought all the characters were really written spot-on, you guys know I don’t like to dabble too much in “baby ben solo” stuff but in this case I thought even he was written well!! My absolute favorite part was Poe’s section, where it talks about how his relationship with food has changed over the years, when he was a kid and Kes taught him how to work magic in the kitchen versus food now when rations are short and everyone is preoccupied with bigger things. The bits about Finn made my heart hurt for him too. I die for this kind of thoughtful character study and this one was perfect!!
A Place to Rest by lajulie24: This is so soft and sweet! They are both characterized so well. Leia is so uncomfortable with vulnerability but they are both growing to trust each other and Han’s kindness is so understated because he’s not a real expressive dude but he cares so much and it shines through. It’s a short little story but it’s so well-written and sweet <3
In Your Hands by lajulie24: This is the perfect complement to the previous rec, which is why I wanted to include them together! This time it’s Han’s turn to be vulnerable and Leia’s turn in the comforting role, and there’s this intimate moment when Leia is worried about Han and suddenly realizes that he’s been worried about her too, and that knowledge brings them closer and it’s just so adorable and thoughtfully played out!
