Between 1985 and 2000, 1094 people in the UK were killed by terrorism.
Between 2000 and 2015, 90 were.
Since 2015 32 have, which suggests it might have gone us since 2015, but it’s still nowhere near as high as it was in the 80s and 90s”

When a country experiences many tragedies in a short space of time, it’s easy to forget that we as a generation have grown up in one of the most peaceful periods in the UK’s history.

This month, be it Manchester, Westminster, London Bridge or Finsbury Park - these events will not define the UK.

The actions of people define the UK. The communities we build - crossing race and religion and age and class - will define the UK. The UK is people and graft and belonging.

There is hope where there is kindness.

And there can be so much kindness in this country if we were to give it half a chance.

Matt Emmett won the 2016 Arcaid Images Architectural Photography Award at this year’s World Architecture Festival. The yearly Arcaid competition scopes out the sharpest shooters in architectural photography, in recognition of expertise and challenging norms in the artistic medium.

Out of 20 shortlisted entries, Emmett ultimately won the Arcaid jury’s favor with his photo of the East London Water Works Company’s 1868 covered reservoir in Finsbury Park, London.

New Beacon Books, N4. Stroud Green community hub and the first Caribbean and Black interest publisher in the UK; New Beacon is the bookshop of the radical George Padmore institute. They host an incredible wide range of BME and political titles as well as a very strong selection of international and multi cultural children’s books. I particularly appreciated their critical thinking section which has to be a must browse for anyone currently studying or flirting with studying a contemporary literature course. A fantastic resource with an important message of strength in diversity. A very warm welcome lies in wait inside for you. This autumn they celebrate their 50th year! High time for your turn to pay them a visit. http://www.georgepadmoreinstitute.org/the-pioneering-years/new-beacon-books-early-history
