Spanish chef José Andrés said he’s changing the name of the Russian salad in his restaurant to Kiev salad.

This is EXACTLY like when under Franco rule it was mandatory to change the names of anything that sounded Russian/commie: Russian baby names were banned, Russian salad (Olivier salad) had to be renamed national salad, Russian steak (Salisbury steak in Spanish) was imperial steak, Russian mountain (rollercoaster in Spanish) became Swiss mountain, etc.

Ridiculous. And hateful.

Belchite, Aragon, Spain

Between August 24 and September 7, 1937, loyalist Spanish Republican and rebel General Franco’s forces in the Spanish Civil War fought the Battle of Belchite in and around the town.

After 1939 a new village of Belchite was built adjacent to the ruins of the old , which remain a ghost town as a memorial to the war.

The fact that pre-Unabomber Kaczynski was a once-in-a-generation mathematical genius means that citing his research can be a tadawkward unless you just roll with it, which resulted in the greatest footnote ever written.

Ted Kaczynski when he ran out of math problems
