#from a certain point of view
I’m really liking how From A Certain Point of View shows just how many people helped the story unfold. Like it’s always been a theme in Star Wars that just one person matters but most of the stories are about how even the most minor, insignificant people doing the smallest acts of goodness led to the win above Yavin 4.
There’s a Jawa who was supposed to give R2 a memory wipe, but didn’t because he realized it was urgent. There was a droid who blew his own motivator, knowing that he’d likely be turned into scrap if he failed, just so Luke could buy R2. The flute player in the band recognized Luke and the droids but decided to not to tell the Empire, because someone had paid her a favor early on and she wanted to pass it on. The bartender recognized Obi-Wan as a Jedi but decided to send the stormtroopers off on a wild goose chase because two Jedi saved his life once in the Clone Wars. The dianoga gave Luke a near-death experience so he’d be able to access the Force more readily when the time came. There never was just one heroic, magical kid saving them all. It was people in the right place deciding to do a good turn, even a minor one, that enabled the victory.
From a Certain Point of View: Lando’s Story is Not One of Betrayal
Lando’s story is one of foresight, sacrifice, bravery, and promise – not betrayal.
In this series, I offer alternative perspectives on classical interpretations of the Star Wars mythos.
A long-standing attribute of Lando Calrissian’s story among Star Wars fans is his betrayal at Cloud City. For most, there isn’t a lot up for debate regarding this aspect of The Empire Strikes Back.Certainly,…
