I need to start reading idw again just because 1, ngl I immediately lost track of wtf was going on as soon as it happened and 2 I have a lot of questions. Like so a lot of fics have idw soundwave rescued by ravage because his telepathy issues make it hard to ground himself to reality right? (Again idk if this happened bc I never read this far but let’s say it did for this post). At the same time soundwave is kind of hinted at being like,, super old. Like decently old, at least 4 million years. The war I’m pretty sure was also like,, 4 million years old so they’re just assuming he’s older than the war because I mean if not that makes no sense. But like in some continuities he’s like 10 million with a 4 million year long war and the one thing that makes me go “???” is like he’s got an outlier ability that renders him immobile when surrounded by a large group of people because like disorientation etc. (It used to at least, we know he can keep the army kinda running now with a bunch of folks on a ship). If he’s like 10 million years old how has he not learned to control this ability?? Is soundwave a farmer who was just chilling out on the outskirts with nobody to bother him but like the first foot into kaon he crumbled?? Is it like a build up thing where as you get older your power gets stronger? Because 6 million years to build up a power with no control over it still makes no sense. Like normally he’s around megatron’s age in the gladiator pits. But again he has some control over it there only because ravage taught him. So the fact that soundwave is like,, super old makes no sense because how has he lived with an outlier ability that detrimental to his health and was only presented like a way to handle it right before the war? The only explanations I can think of are either 1, he pulled a tailgate and did not realize he was sitting in a back alley for like millions of years. Or 2, he’s actually young as heck but lied on his decepticon resume.
Also this is messily put together but hopefully it’s kind of coherent.
Ravage and Soundwave are older than the war because they were some of the people who helped Megatron start it. That means they’re over four million years old.
They were both fairly young when they met, but the people who say he was a sparkling and Ravage was his parent are either writing their own AU or smoking something. They met as adults.
Ravage and Soundwave are both hypersensitive outliers with sensory processing disorders, but in different sense modalities. Soundwave is a telepath/empath who can’t help picking up other people’s thoughts. Ravage has incredibly good vision and smell. Ravage suffers physical pain from lights that are too bright and can track people, and identify the corpse of anyone met before by smell, and knows where you’ve been and probably what you’ve been doing. Ravage also has a very keen body-sense, proprioception. The two of them have complementary abilities.
Soundwave was kicked out of his home/job/family (probably upper caste) and “junked” because he is autistic, has sensory processing disorder and his uncontrolled telepathy made him unsure where he was and what he was doing and WHO he was, and Ravage found him on the streets and took him in. Ravage has less disabling problems of the same nature.
Presumably they have a very deep emotional bond that goes to the spark; when Ravage dies in canon, Soundwave collapses in agony, despite being parsecs away in another planetary system entirely. It is unclear what the nature of the bond is from canon but I do not think it’s “parental”. Ravage and Soundwave were not originally cassette and cassette player; this was forced on them by Ratbat as a condition of him being allowed to take Ravage and the birbs with him to an offworld job.Honestly, the depth of their relationship suggests that they are either amica or conjunx endurae. I think people discount it because Ravage is shaped like a cat, but I believe Megatron is Ravage’s amica and Soundwave is Ravage’s conjunx.
Two poor, broke-ass disabled adults helping each other deal with their problems does not have to be a parentified relationship. (If you do this because you love found family, great. If you do this because you don’t think one or the other of them is fully adult and capable of giving consent on account of their disabilities and illnesses, cut it the hell out.)
I love some of the points you made esp because some of these things I did not know however please don’t EVER tag ravage/soundwave on any of my stuff again. It really creeps me out and makes me uncomfortable. /nm
Also I never implied ravage was soundwave’s parent I was just asking why soundwave had no coping mechanisms before ravage taught him. If he was from a higher caste it would kind of make sense but I still don’t get how he could avoid so many people as there were a lot of cities. Unless his telepathy was originally less of a range thing and more of a line of sight thing or he was kept in like,, a tall building.

The kind of coping mechanisms he would have needed to handle his abilities aren’t something he could have been taught because he’s unique. As an adult, he’s got the ability to talk to Cosmos at interplanetary distances.
You could have just asked me not to tag with my ship without insulting it. Ravage is not an animal; Ravage is as intelligent as any other mech and that’s the whole point of their arc. If you don’t consider their relationship parental (and I didn’t say you did, just that half the fandom seems to, even though they met as adults), I don’t get what the issue is (and you don’t have to tell me, that’s fine).
I don’t remember where I saw your post, but I will say that if my OTP creeps you out that much (I’ve written half the stuff on AO3 for that tag) my blog is probably not for you.
Okay so what I’m seeing is that you’re just using this thread as a reason to defend your ship that nobody asked you about. So please make your own post. I never said ravage was an animal or even insulted him but the fact that you, a 40+ year old, lack common sense and keep engaging with MY POST after I asked you NOT TO if it deals with your ship is GROSS. If you want a reason to post about ravage and soundwave, make your own post?? Everything you bring up is restated facts I already know except for,“btw, ravage and soundwave-”. I don’t care bro.
