Geiseltal fossil reconstructions of Gastornis and Propaleotherium

Since the beginning of the 20th century, fossils were excaveted in Geiseltal while mining coal. The finds are quite extraordinary: well preserved leafs, fruits, vertebrates and insects enable a broad view into ancient eco systems. Sadly the excavation site was flooded in 2003 making it the biggest artifical lake in Germany.
The stars of Geiseltal: Propaleotherium, ancestor of todays horses, and the terror bird Gastornis. But contrary to popular beliefs this chick would rather crack up some nuts with the boys instead of hunting.
