Clint x reader - Heroes can’t save everyone

He sat in the dark of his room, a pair of shorts on and his hands curled in his hair. Life just didn’t seem real for him.

He tried to clear his head, let his mind go blank. But no matter how hard he tried he couldn’t, those words still float around in his mind. Out of all the things he wanted to remember, it was all he could think off.

Not even a day before that… day… everything was great. Perfect even, he was planning on confessing his love to her, he was happy, bright, cheerful. It was all torn away in the matter of minutes.

“Sometimes… Sometimes supeheroes can’t save everyone..”

Clint replayed that sentence in his every single second of every single day for the past week. The last thing you had ever said to him and it haunted him.

“Just hold on!” He begged, holding your hand.

“I… I can’t, Clint let go! You don’t need to fall with me!”

He was head and shoulders were hanging over the edge of a cliff. Raging waters below. His grip on you slipping, years in his eyes, his heart breaking. He couldn’t lift you up, the wasn’t strong enough the gash in side was burning.

“No! Just a little longer!”

“Clint.. I love you okay? You’re my superhero.” You whispered.

You brought you glanced down before turning your eyes back to his. He didn’t even see it coming.

“Sometimes… Sometimes supeheroes can’t save everyone..” you whispered.

You sent him a smile and zapped him electricity surged through him and made his grip loosen, his fingers brushed agasint yours as you fell.

Sat on his bed, he curled into himself, tears streaming down himself. He blamed himself for not being strong enough, not getting there faster.

“Why did you let go…?” He whispered.

Clint clenched his jaw, trying to keep the tears at bay. He wasn’t sad. No. Clint Barton had been shattered the moment your fingers slipped from his. The moment he watched you plunge into that raging water below.

Clint was sad.

He was broken.

And no one knew what to do.

They all stood outside his room, listening to his sobs as they glanced at each other. He wouldn’t even let Nat in.

“We have to help him.” She sighed.

“How? It’s not like we can bring her back.” Steve shook his head.

They all frowned and left, going in their separate directions as the left the archer in his room.

Another few days went like this until he had enough and left the room. He left the tower and he went to your grave and he just sat there. He didn’t saying anything.

Hours went by until his phone went off. He wanted to ignore it, but when he read the text he was on his feet, sprinting towards his car.

“Where?!” He yelled barging into the medical ward.

“In there. They aren’t sure how bad he damage is.” Steve sighed, placing a hand on his friends shoulder.

The pair of them stood outside the room waiting. Almost 30 minutes the doctors left and Bruce came out, nodding to Clint.

“Be careful.” Bruce ordered.

He ran in, taking a seat at the bedside as he took the cold hand in his. He sat there.

Again, days in and days out no one saw much of the archer. He was either in that chair or getting a shower. Bruce brought him food and such. He hadn’t said much either. After two weeks, the eyes that he had fallen in love with fluttered open.

They seemed to focus before looking around and landing on him. At first they were blank and he begun to worry but they quickly softened.

“(Y/N)…” he breathed.

Clint grabbed the cup of water, lifted your head and placed it to your lips, allowing you to sip it before he helped you up properly.

“What the hell were you thinking?!” His voice cracked.

“Heroes can’t save everyone… but I wanted to save you…”

“And I could have saved you.” A tear slipped down Clints face.

You reached up, wiped it away and cradled his face. Clint leaned into your touch. You just shook your head.

“I… Clint.. I had to let go..”

You couldn’t find any other words. Clint wrapped his arms around you and gently hugged you, burying his face in your neck and you felt his tears hit your skin.

“I… I don’t want to loose you (Y/N)…”

“I’m so sorry..”

Wrapping your arms around him, you kissed his hand and ran a hand through his scruffy hair. Your heart broke knowing you had caused this.

“Heroes don’t need to save everyone.” Clint mumbled leaning back.

He gently grabbed your face and looked you dead in the eyes, he took a deep breath.

“As long as I can save you…”

Today’s Spring Fling prompt for @the-ce-horniest-book-club is First Date. I asked one of my friends to pick the guy and she ended up giving me an amazing prompt on top of it.

For this drabble, which almost got to my max of 500, I’m picturing that deleted scene from Avengers 1 where Steve is at an outdoor cafe drawing. I’ve included a link to a YouTube video if you aren’t familiar with the deleted scene.

Title: Asking Him Out

“Your boyfriend is out there,” your coworker teased as she stepped behind the counter at the café you worked at.

You rolled you eyes. Ever since you’d admitted you thought Steve Rogers, a regular, was hot, the other girls had declared him your boyfriend.

Grabbing a mug of black coffee for Steve, you carried it out to the table he always sat at.

“Good morning,” you greeted him as you set the mug down.

“Morning,” he replied, giving you a dazzling smile. “How are you this morning?”

“I’m good. How about you?”

“I can’t complain.”

You took his meal order and then went back into the kitchen to put his order in.

“You should ask him out,” your best work friend said.

“I can’t,” you replied.

“Why not?” she asked. “He isn’t wearing a ring? What’s the worst thing he could say? No?”

“He could say a lot worse,” you pointed out.

“Maybe some guys, but not Steve,” she stated. “Besides, when you were sick last week, he asked where you were. So he has obviously noticed you.”

You bit your lower lip as you considered her words. You’d never asked a guy out before, you usually let them ask you. She was right though, Steve was different than the guys you were used to. You knew who he was and the part of his story that had been shared via the newspaper. But you didn’t really know him and, if you were being completely honest with yourself, you wanted to.

By the time Steve’s order was ready, you knew you were going to do it.

Carrying his plate to the table, you set it down then cleared your throat.

He glanced up at you, expectantly, which caught you off guard. So much so that when you spoke, your words came out as a jumbled mess. “Doyouwanttogoonadatewithme?”

“I didn’t quite get that,” he said, apologetically.

You took a deep breath and then tried again. “Do you want to go on a date with me?”

“What did you have in mind?” Steve asked.

You blinked, surprised he hadn’t said no, immediately. You racked your brain to come up with a date idea and then remembered your friend mentioning that a local movie theater played old black and white movies on week nights. You suggested that to Steve.

Then, to your surprise, he nodded and said, “That sounds like it could be fun. I’m free most nights.”

“Does Thursday work?” you asked him.

“Thursday is perfect,” he confirmed. “Shall I pick you up or do you want to meet at the theater?”

“Pick me up?” you replied. “I’ll write down my number -”

You stopped talking when he held out his phone. You entered your information and then handed it back to him.

“I’ll, uh, text you?” Steve replied.

You nodded your head and then smiled before telling him to enjoy his meal before going back to the kitchen.

I loved this!!!

Here is my short drabble for @the-ce-horniest-book-club and the Spring Fling event. My afternoon was less than ideal at work… but here’s hoping flirty Colin and his best friend can help me out of that funk.

Today’s prompt is flirtatious and this drabble is just under 500 words.

Title: Once Upon A Pick Up Line

Pairing:Colin Shea x female reader

Rating:PG-13

Warnings:suggestive

There was nothing better after a shitty day at work than hanging out with Colin Shea. He was your best friend and he could turn any bad day into a good one.

The two of you were a beer and a half in when a character on the show you were watching said, “Is that a gun in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?”

You booed and threw the crumpled fast food wrapper at the TV. “That was awful,” you groaned.

“You think you could come up with something better?” he countered.

“Absolutely,” you said confidently. “Even if I was half asleep or drunk.”

Colin paused the TV and said, “Prove it. Pick up line contest now. You go first.”

“Fine,” you replied. You took a sip of your beer as you thought and then cleared your throat. You turned to him and gave him your best flirty eyes before saying, “Hey there, hot stuff, come here often?”

“Weak! Colin scoffed.

You rolled your eyes and waited for him to take his turn.

He turned his head towards you and gave you a cocky smile. “I’d be more than happy to show you a good time, if you’re looking for one.”

“Gross,” you pretended to cringe. “I feel like I need a shower.”

“Keep sweet-talking and this could go a whole new direction,”  Colin teased, but in a different tone than his previous line.

You forced yourself to take a sip of your beer as your mind whirled. You and Colin had always had a platonic relationship. Sure he was hot, but you’d never looked at him like that. Or, at least, had never done so consciously.

Stealing a glance at him now, though, you suddenly saw things you hadn’t noticed before. His strong jaw, the perfect shape of his lips.

“Enjoying the view?” he asked, one of his eyebrows raising.

“Just admiring the way that blue shirt makes your eyes bluer,” you replied, lamely.

“Oh come on, you can do better than that,” Colin teased.

“Why don’t you put those lips to better use and kiss me?”

Your words caught both of you by surprise.

Then you were kissing.

He cradled your head in his hands as his tongue slipped between your lips.

When you parted, you pressed your forehead against his as you tried to catch your breath.

“I’ve wanted to do that for a long time,” he confessed.

“You say that like you kissed me,” you said with a laugh. “Obviously, I kissed you first.”

“Don’t make me laugh,” Colin scoffed. “I definitely kiss-”

“Oh shut up,” you told him before you kissed him again.

Awwww I loved this!!
