I can’t even begin to describe how heartbroken this news has left me. At 35 years old, Godfrey Gao, our very first Magnus Bane, has died during the filming of a reality show in China.
He was one of the most caring, gentle and heart warming human being who ever graced this world. He will never be forgotten.
Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones in this very difficult moment.
Handsome Asian Godfrey Gao is a Taiwanese actor and model. It takes considerable handsomeness chops to maintain such hotness while wearing a singlet.
Incidentally, this Handsome Asian’s original surname (Tsao) is the same as the surname of the moderator of this Tumblr. If we were to get married our families would disapprove.

This dude was a model. He worked out daily. He loved basketball. His whole image revolved around fitness and having a good body. He started working out since he was 12. After college, he wanted to be a basketball player. He invested in several gyms in China.
And you’re telling me “he just ran a few laps. His health wasn’t great and his death doesn’t have anything to do with our program” ?

This program starts shooting at 8am, concludes well past the early hours of the next morning. Busy idols who work during the day, work over hours without sleep have to compete these dumb activities in cold weather. Olympic champions got exhausted on Chase me. Idols threw up and needed oxygen masks. On this show, grown men who work out daily have pulled muscles, and girls who are less physical fit are being pushed off buildings in harnesses. There were no doctors on set. Huang Jingyu screamed for at least 10 minutes ,no doctor came. It was the employees of the station/program randomly doing CPR. The emergency truck on set was prop with no actual emergency personnel. People with “health issues ” would not sign up for this program.
I feel wholly under-qualified to speak on this, since I only knew Godfrey Gao as this astonishingly beautiful man, who was just beginning to make moves in a film/TV career.
But what hurts for me… Is that I also saw him as this great potentially centered male lead… And we all know how short in supply Hollywood is when it comes to *especially* Asian male romantic leads.
So, what I’m saying is, my heart hurts for he meant for Asian representation and it hurts for the communities of east Asian peoples who were his fans, in particular. I hate to see arrested potential in starved sectors of the arts and I’m sad for those who were fans and of course, his loved ones, who hurt the most.
He was too damn young. …fuck.

there is definitely something wrong with this show, it seems they have put their contestants through physical labour (x) (x). Godfrey Gao was a healthy man, he worked out daily and had no heart conditions according to his manager (x). He had been filming for 17 hours before collapsing (x), he was running without resting. This needs to be investigated asap…
