First granny hair. Now granny panties.

The New York Times reports “Young Women Say No to Thongs” - a look at how millennials have cracked wise to Victoria’s (patriarchal) secret.

“Most women just want something basic for every day that will make them look and feel good,” Greer Simpkins explains. Before she launched Hello, Beautiful (a website featuring 1 primo pair of whitie tighties), she studied women shopping for underwear at Victoria Secret.

“I noticed that a lot of women would come in with a friend, and they’d be asking: ‘Do you like this? Do you think he will like it?’ They’d be thinking about everyone else but themselves.”

While the male gaze has undoubtedly informed countless panty sales, those days may be numbered. White full-butt panties - the kind grandma wore - are back. Perhaps they never left, but they’re SUPER back: $40 a pair, back.

I’m so excited for this cultural moment. We’re rejecting paint-by-numbers sexuality, and picking for ourselves. Sexy can be whatever we choose. From gray hair to armpit fur to high waist briefs. Please, PLEASE keep challenging cultural assumptions, millennials, you’re doing GREAT work.
