The house exploded into flames. Jason watched from the crowd, a cap, and hood covering his face as the flames from the house lit up his eyes. The glow from the burning house made him reminiscent of the nights he had fallen asleep by the fireplace, after hours of reading one of the many books he owned.

Jason thought about how just a couple of hours beforehand, Bruce and Jason were face to face.

“Turn around.”

Jason’s voice was disguised due to the Arkham Knight helmet that had a voice modifier embedded into it. It was a safety precaution, just in case Bruce was to get a clip of his voice and try to use it in a program to identify him. The modifier made it so it would fry the audio clip and make it unusable.

Bruce slowly turned from where Gordan was tied to a chair in the Militia HQ. The red lights of the room made the moment feel more sinister as Jason pointed the black Glock 17 at the weak spot in Bruce’s armor. Jason had waited years for this moment, there were many times he almost came out of hiding and blew everything he had worked on just to show Bruce what he did to him. One-shot and it would be all over. Jason had to stop himself from letting this moment end too early.

“Who are you?”

His voice was rough just as it had always been, Bruce’s eyes stared into where Jason’s should have been on his helmet. Jason clenched his jaw, even though Bruce was one of the smartest men in the U.S., he sure couldn’t put two and two together.

“You really have no idea, do you, Bruce?”

Jason pressed the button on his helmet, the visor lifted up revealing Jason’s face. Bruce’s eyes widened as he finally pieced together the evidence. Jason. His second son. The son he lost at the hands of Joker. The son who was supposed to be dead. Was standing in front of him.

The older man noticed the large J burned into Jason’s cheek as the red lighting of the room made the white lines of the scarring brighter. Bruce’s stomach churned as he thought about the things Joker must have done to Jason. He noticed that Jason’s eyes, which were normally so radiant and full of life, were now stagnant and lifeless.

“Jason? But, You're…. dead?”

Bruce gawked at his son in disbelief, thinking this was another cruel hallucination from Joker’s blood that was coursing through his veins and gradually killing him. Jason started to walk closer to Bruce, gun still pointed to the weak spot. He circled his former mentor. Bruce followed his movements, never taking his eyes off him.

“What’s the matter? Lost for words? I expected more. I’m hurt.”

Jason said sarcastically, as he clenched and unclenched his jaw. He had dreamt for years since he was captured and held in the abandoned wing of Arkham Asylum. About how he’d confront Bruce. Make him pay for never coming and looking for him, for never killing Joker.

“Joker sent me the film, I saw him kill you?”

The hurt in Bruce’s voice was apparent, it made Jason feel good. It made him feel good to also know that Bruce was stunned. Normally he was a thousand steps ahead of everyone, but Jason finally got the upper hand. It felt wonderful to see the Dark Knight scramble for answers. Jason got even angrier, the unbridled rage he had was very close to unleashing.

“Don’t you dare lie to me!”

Jason yelled through gritted teeth as he thrust the gun at Bruce, Jason’s hand trembled lightly, but Bruce was oblivious, still working out how Jason was alive after all this time.

“How long did you wait before replacing me? A month? A week?! I trusted you! I trusted you and you just left me to die!”

Jason started to walk circles around Bruce once more, Bruce copied his actions.

“That’s not what happened.”

Bruce growled, it made him so hurt and furious to know that Jason thought that Bruce replaced him like he was spoiled milk in the fridge.

“You always told me, Bruce, focus on what I want to achieve and it’ll happen. Well, you want to know what I want now? Huh?”

Jason’s voice was hushed as he spoke, he tried to hold back his lip from quivering as he stared at the man who he had trusted with his whole being in the face. The man who left him to die. He walked closer to bruce and shoved the tip of the pistol under Bruce’s chin, forcing his head up.

“I want you dead.”

Bruce was quick to shove Jason’s hand away and headbutt him, making Jason let out a grunt and trip backward. Jason skidded back on the ground, the metal of his suit armor grinding against the metal of the floor making a gross screeching noise. Jason groaned as he stood up, pulling out the twin to the pistol he had. He fired a few shots out of anger as he looked around for Bruce.

“You can’t hide from me! I will hunt you down!”

Jason screamed through the HQ, which used to serve as an old shopping center. His voice ricocheted off the walls as both of his pistols turned into one modified sniper rifle. He held the sniper in his hands as he looked around. He pulled off the blue visor on his helmet as electricity sparked through it. Jason threw it to the ground before he pressed the button on the helmet, the red visor coming down. Jason grappled to a nearby vantage point to start scanning the room.

Jason shook his head and walked away. He got on his motorcycle and sped off, the tires screeching against the asphalt as he drove. Jason couldn’t stop himself from remembering how Bruce found him. Jason had tried stealing the tires off the batmobile, he almost succeeded too. He remembered Bruce wrapping Jason in his cape and taking him to get a burger.

He swung a hard left into an alleyway before he came to a halt. He started at the red brick apartment building, he hoped that she hadn’t evacuated with everyone else. That she was in there, safe.

Jason grappled to the thirteen floor and jumped to the third terrace from the left. He put on his black domino mask and pressed the button for detective vision.

“Hey creeper.”

He jumped and looked to the girl who was hanging out the third window from the right.

“Has it really been that long that you forgot what apartment I’m in?”

Jason smiled at her as he made his way to her, pulling the mask off as he crawled in. The warmth of the apartment made him shiver as he came in from the freezing weather outside. The tips of his ears and nose grew red as he adjusted to the temperature change.

“You’re here.” He said to her, his lips curling up in a bit of a smile.

“Where else would I be? Babs called me, told me that you might come after me. I told her you’d be a dead man.” The girl kept talking as she walked back to her computer.

Jason’s smile was wiped off by her words. He clenched his jaw.

“I need your help.” He said to her

“Need? Or want? Those are two very different things, Jace.”

“Please.” He sighed as he looked at the back of her head

“I can’t. You know that.” She started typing on her laptop

“Can’t? Or won’t?” Jason said as he walked next to her desk, leaning on the wall with crossed arms.

“We both know the answer to that.” She snarled

Jason moved away from the wall he leaned on. He pressed on a certain area, a keypad came up. He punched in the code and watched as a wall came up.

He was face to face with a glass case that held the black and purple costume, along with her arsenal of weapons.

“What are you doing? Close that.” The girl scoffed as she looked up from her laptop.

“It wasn’t your fault you know.” Jason sighed as he walked away, back towards the window.

“Get some therapy before you try and tell me about my faults.” She scoffed and clenched her jaw.

“Fuck you.”

Jason decided to test her, he pulled a shuriken out of his coat and threw it at her. Y/n jumped and grabbed the crossbow from the shelf in the hidden panel and shot an arrow. The arrow hit through the center of the shuriken. The sharp metal weapon hung from the arrow that was now stuck into the wall.

“You still got it.” He hummed as he crawled out the window. He stuck his head back in to look at her, the crossbow still in her hands.

“Think about it?” He cocked an eyebrow at her

“Get out!” She groaned

Jason jumped down from the terrace. He swung his leg over his motorcycle and took off. He went to his apartment and sat at his computer. He tapped his fingers before typing into the search bar of the bat computer database.

‘Huntress’

He watched as many articles popped up along with her stats and videos of her training. Jason clicked on the stats.

‘Name: Y/n, Y/l

Aliases: Huntress, Helena Bertinelli, Paula Lian Brooks

Base of Operations: Gotham City

Abilities: Archery,-’

A knock on the door pulled Jason from his thoughts. He stood up from his desk and crossed the floor to the door, he looked through the peephole. Y/n was standing there with her laptop bag hanging off her shoulder.

He opened the door, Y/n pushed past him and threw her bag onto the desk next to his laptop.

“Well, hello to you too.”

Jason said as he shut the door.

“If we do this, we do it under my terms. You listen to me. I’m the boss.”

She walked closer to him and poked her finger against his muscled chest. Jason looked her in the eyes with a cocked eyebrow. He gently grabbed her hand and pulled it away from his chest. Y/n stared him down. The two had an unsolicited staring contest before Jason broke.

“Fine. Partners?” He held out his hand for a handshake

“Partners. Just like old times.”

She shook his hand with a smile on her face.
