The main parallel that springs to my mind is that the same actor played Maurice’s Alec (not Maurice, not Clive) in 1987, and then Closer’s Dan on Broadway in 1999 – as well as being a friend of Marber and a stage collaborator in Marber’s wider (Pinter) projects as director:
