#harold pinter
Harold Pinter exits the shop and throws his empty cup in the trash bin outside. Seven years earlier, he goes up to the counter and orders two black coffees.
“I would’ve loved you forever.”
“I was yours once till death if you’d cared to keep me.”
(parallels between maurice by em forster and closer by patrick marber)
The main parallel that springs to my mind is that the same actor played Maurice’s Alec (not Maurice, not Clive) in 1987, and then Closer’s Dan on Broadway in 1999 – as well as being a friend of Marber and a stage collaborator in Marber’s wider (Pinter) projects as director:
1987
1999
2000 (production photography by Donald Cooper / Photostage [x])
2019 (production photography by Marc Brenner [x])
