I’m really sorry to say that Kiwi, at the age of four, has passed away. She developed cancer on her neck, and I had to put her down because she was suffering to much. I miss her very much, but I’m thankful for the amazing time we had together. She was my best friend.
She brought a lot of joy to many people all over the world, through this tumblr. It means a lot to me that so many of you cared about this one little hedgie.
I’m also very sorry that I haven’t posted anything in a long time. I couldn’t because of personal circumstances, which I can’t explain. I hope you understand. I post this because you all have the right to know that’s she’s gone.
I don’t think I’ll be able to come back to this blog for a long time, maybe I’ll check on it once in a while. Thank you for the support and kind words I’ve gotten over the past years, it means so much to me.

Perfume and cosmetic containers in the shape of hedgehogs became common during the 6th and 5th century BC and were probably invented in the Greek colony of Naukratis and the Western Delta region of Egypt. However, hedgehog representation on ships and hedgehog statuettes were common in ancient Egypt from the 3rd millennium BC. The hedgehog’s body armor symbolized protection, and in addition he was seen as one of the sun god’s special animals.

How is Kiwi holding up in this heat?
It’s very hot here in the Netherlands right now, about 33 °C. Hedgehogs need warm teperatures, but this is a little bit too hot, even for them. So, I try to help her keep cool. During the day she is downstairs in a cool corner of the living room, instead of at the attic where it’s extremely hot during the day. I also made a cold spot in her cage for her to lay on if she gets hot. She can go and lay down on some linoleum with is cooler than a fleece blanket. Kiwi seems to be coping very well right now :)
